The entire conceit of this song is very funny because the title makes it sound like it's gonna be some kind of sappy love song and then the actual song is just this poor bewildered man going "no, like, she is *literally* an angel and frankly I'm not even sure how I got into this situation in the first place"

About 18 years ago, we went to the Electric Factory in Philadelphia... TMBG was headlining. Zebra Head opened, then Reel Big Fish.... both opening bands thanked They Might be Giants for allowing them to open for them. It seemed like many of the kids there had never heard TMBG before and there was some visible skepticism if not out right hostility. A college girl was standing beside us, when TMBG came on stage she and her friends were giving them the finger. John Linnell went to center front stage with a full sized accordion and the band played this song. John Linnell stood with his head cocked, waiting for a response from the largely non fan audience ... The girl said "Oh shit... I didn't know they sounded like that..." and mostly all the kids there were silent for a moment and then roared approval.... it was a magical and wonderful moment, that I will never forget.

I have the original vinyl press release. Got it when it was released. 85/86 I think. I was born in 75'. That made me the weirdest kid in the schoolyard. I still have it in perfect condition. In fact it is so touching that my eye's well up with tears remembering when i played it constantly after my first true love broke up with me. But I still love to listen to it.

One of my favourite songs. A year ago I finally got together with one of my best friends, whom I'd known for over 20 years. She was in town for a hospital appointment, and I happened to have the day of work. We went to the British Museum and had lunch, which turned into dinner, which turned into breakfast. The next day we were fairly sure we had something lasting, but the deal wasn't sealed. I recorded a Karaoke video of this song dedicated to her, posting it on Facebook. Then it was. We aren't yet engaged but we will be, and at our reception I want to get the band to learn this song, so that I can sing it to her for our first dance.
