THE STORY BEHIND THE HIT SONG "LIPS OF AN ANGEL" BY HINDER.

Austin Winkler, who was the former lead singer of the band Hinder said that the lyrics of their hit song entitled as ‘Lips Of An Angel’ is based on a true story.

" My ex-girlfriend had called me while my current girlfriend was in the next room. Then when I was writing with Cody, I brought up this idea, and we kind of looked at each other. We realized we had a good song (in the making). Cody then came up with the chord progressions." Austin quoted.

The lyrics deal with the singer describing his feelings when his favored girlfriend from his past calls late at night, somewhat pleasantly interrupting his current relationship. More than once, a reference to the call being secret is made, and the singer expresses concern of a fight ensuing as a result. The song concludes just as it began, with the singer questioning to why she is calling so late. However, at the end, it is less literal and more figurative, with the underlying meaning of "so late" not at night, but too late in life, perhaps adding an element of sadness to the song, as it ends with the plot unresolved.

What I love about this song so much is that it's sung so passionately, it hurts you by just listening to it even without understanding the lyrics. When the meaning comes to you, it hurts even more. Two people who can't be together for some reason, longing to be in each other's arms. At the same time, it hurts to be on the other side of their relationships. You wanna hate the ex for calling. You wanna hate the guy for feeling weak. But really, they're two people who haven't truly moved on. They're only talking on the phone but the guy feels this intensely about his ex. It tells us how he feels for her. He keeps asking her why she's calling late at night, waiting for her assurance that he's not the only one who misses her. Notice how the guy asked if his ex's partner knows about the call and says something like, will this end in a fight? We don't know what the ex told him, but it tells us about the state of her new relationship. Maybe they're always fighting, and the singer knows about it. Then the singer says something like, she doesn't have a clue, pertaining to his new partner. Makes you wonder why when she's literally in the next room (in the vid, she's right behind him, i think). Does this mean his new partner doesn't really care much about their relationship? So, are they really just trapped in ugly relationships and are both waiting for each other to reach out and fix their relationship? At the end of the song, the guy is still waiting for his ex. The plot of the song is hanging. I wish they gave an answer to this song, from the ex's pov, or maybe from the new girl's pov. Overall, it's a very passionate song. My kuyas play this song a lot 😆
