The Kilauea volcano in Hawaii started a new eruption on September 29th, 2021. It has generated several lava fountains, and produced a large quantity of lava. So, where is the lava flowing? How long will the eruption last? This video will answer these two questions, and discuss what is likely to happen next as this Hawaiian Island volcano.

Kilauea is a speciality of mine. You are 1000 percent correct on all points. They recorded a magma intrusion into the south caldera earlier this month and then immediately following that. Increased inflation was noted at the summit.

It is quite unusual for 4 volcanoes in the United States to be erupting at the same time. Of course, this is simply a statistical abnormality and doesn't really imply anything. The United States has 161 active volcanoes after all!

Kilauea: * sees the volcanoes in Congo, Iceland and the Canary Islands getting all the attention *
I want in on that.

Super love the details on the "averageness" of the eruption! Context like this is really fantastic for someone like me who is interested, but not well versed in the specifics. So thanks!

This channel has made me realize that volcanic eruptions are far more frequent than I thought

Aloha from big Island! Thank you for your informative channel without the fear mongering. It helps for people like myself to know just how much activity there is here on earth and that it is normal. I love the volcanism here and just did second hike to the Mauna Loa crater. I'm looking forward to checking out the lava lake at night before it stops again. Much love to all! ❤️

1:40 "As an example, the deadliest eruption in U.S. history originated in this caldera in 1790 when an unusually explosive eruption killed 400 indigenous Hawaiians."
1) At the time of the eruption, Hawaii's government was the Kingdom of Hawaii. The illegal coup against the Hawaiian Kingdom by American businessmen who convinced the U.S. minister to illegally land U.S. troops, buttressing the coup did not occur until 1893.
2) The graphic showing "VEI = 4, 400 deaths" looks a lot like "4, 400". At a minimum the comma should probably be a semi-colon. The VEI (Volcanic Eruption Index) appears to be an exponential scale with "0" = below 0.0001 cubic Km of erupted tephra volume; 4 = 0.1 - 1 cubic Km; 8= 1, 000+ Km cubes.

That's a sweet photograph at 1:10 . Guessing that's about 1968 or so, based on the cars (looks like a 1967 Fairlane station wagon in the back) and the rudimentary safety gear being worn.

Hawaii, Alaska, Iceland, Italy, the Canary Islands, ... Is there any volcano that isn't erupting ?

If this eruption lasts more than 7 days, then you can consider it to be longer than median. The distribution of eruption lengths look like it's skewed to the right, so average is greater than the 50th percentile.

Have you done an update to the Iceland volcano?
