Buying My Favorite Car! Driving It 1300 Miles Home...

After selling a few cars we made room for another very special car to me. I purchased a 69 Alfa Romeo GTV 12 or so years ago in hopes to have a nostalgic cruising car. But after tearing into it and finding it needed a motor and a trans, I shelved the project and started collecting parts. Well 12 years later it has moved all over the country and hasn't been worked on at all... So when I found this 69 GTV in the same color, but a semi restored driving for sale, we placed a very reasonable bid and won it!

This was a very exciting purchase for me as the 69 GTV is my favorite looking car. The buy went really well, I flew out to NY with a backpack and my Gearwrench tool box. The drive back was beautiful, the weather was perfect, and it was a really meant to be type of trip with little to no setbacks.

I love this car and will make some well planned modifications to make it the perfect classic alfa.

As an Italian from Monza, I can assure you that you got a gem, nice GTVs are getting impossible to find, and their price will only go up. Great purchase my guy, and welcome to an addiction, mine are Lancias, I have some friends that are in the Alfa game, and those things are like crack, can't wait to see more strange vintage steel on the channel.

I remember my fathers 1970 1750 GTV so so well - same colour. Means my choice in cars these days always goes with pasta and pizza.

And a nice bottle of Chianti and some fava just saying

Italian cars are ignored by the younger car community that I am a part of. I have a fiat spider and it’s a great starter vehicle. Available in the $1500 range. 2 liter dual cam engine, 5 speed manual transmission, rear wheel drive, 4 wheel disc brakes, plenty of aftermarket available.

Keep the stock airbox. It’s the best with SPICA. The Italian Engineers knew what they were doing. This is according to Wes Ingram and the late Dave Vandenberg.

What a gorgeous car, congrats! Not usual car that we all see you driving, but obviously a true car aficionado.

His and hers without a doubt! Especially if it's normal for these to have nice, high oil pressure like that. Makes me love them right there, lol.

His and hers for the win. Many years ago my boss had one and was replacing a rusty floor pan bit by bit. Amazing that you can find one in snow country that’s so rust free. Fine looking piece of Italian machinery.

Please keep making content with this absolute gem of this car. These get nowhere near the amount of love as they should. I was just showing a coworker who own a new Giullia and I wanted him to see what a real Alfa looks like, so the Alfaholics GTA 270 and 290 R is what I thought was a good example. Definitely exhaust but some insane throttle body setup, ITB’s screaming to 7k RPM. Other than that, you know the drill I’m sure…..suspension, brakes and call it done. Nice choice and an even better buy!!!

There ya go. Looks like a super nice one. Reminds me, back in h.s. (89-90), we were up in downtown Portland (Oregon), walking up a parking structure to one of the malls, and there were little shops/businesses as you went up. One was wide open, tables, parts and pieces everywhere, old manuals here and there. Shelves full of parts, books but greasy used. Cylinder heads/headers laying on one bench, engine stuff on another. Nobody to be found. Lunch maybe? I wandered around until I felt like I shouldn't be in some dudes shop. It was a vintage Alpha shop, so cool ... No doors or fancy signs. Just an old shop garage space with a specialty. Super killer. Never forgot that place. Long since gone.

100% do it Mrs. Chelsea.. my aunt and uncle did the same thing with 2 1966 Triumph Spitfire 4's. One was hard top the other convertible.
