Wow you are great. So glad I found you. I'm thinking about getting a mini wood burning stove and just learned some valuable stuff from your videos

We’re getting ready to have a Buck wood heater installed in our very old house. I’ve always been afraid of a fire, so this was a big decision for us. The first thing that everyone has told me to do is to discuss it with my insurance company. That’s like telling me to go to the dentist. I was pleasantly surprised. When I told my agent that I was having it professionally installed by the dealership, he was very supportive. It’s just too big of a risk to DIY unless you know what you’re doing. I’ll sleep better. Excellent video!!

Learned more about creosote formation in 2 minutes than in 15 years of burning wood.

It's so important to have a pro like this fellow do these types of jobs, rather than a DIYer or handyman. You want to get this done right, with the right materials!

There are no chimney sweeps available in our area right now. We are DIYing our chimney repair and installing a flexible, insulated metal liner. Our liner came in two 8ft sections that need to be connected with a collar, and we have wrapped it ourselves with insulation. OUR PROBLEM: it’s not very flexible after insulation wrap, and we can’t get it in the chimney without the collar popping off — 16 feet of semi-stiff liner in the air! So now one 8ft piece is in the chimney and the other is laying on the scaffold… have to reconnect the two pieces up on the roof somehow. It’s freezing out and we’re exhausted. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is it good to install a liner inside the chimney flue of a regular wood burning fireplace?

Burn a hot fire (high flue temps) or buy a catalytic stove, which eliminates smoke, even when the flue temps are low. Even with a catalytic stove, I have heard its suggested to burn one hot fire per day.

We have a Kodiak air tight fireplace insert stove. It is designed to burn with damped down fires. By your description that seems like it will leave more creosote in the chimney. Any recommendations? We have used that stove for 37 years. Getting an insulated stainless chimney flue installed today.

Do the tiles at the bottom of the fireplace have to be repaired before you install a liner? Just had a fire and the tiles are cracked.

do you have a recommendation for a brand of insulated chimney liner? Can you purchase them pre-insulated? thank you!

You seem very knowledgeable! Question.... Do the liners need brackets or other supports? My boss and I are re building the exposed part of the chimney and we don't want the pipe to fall all the way to the furnace whilst repairing thr chimney.

Do you think it will fall? Are they usually installed with supports?

How hot can one of these chimney liners get? My fire place mantle has some openings and I'm able to see my liner if I look though it. Thinking of buying a laser temp gun to check my temps

What do I do about the 8in flue and the 8in chimney pipe I have ? I want a new stove mine is 1975 Vermont casting defiant. Now a days they all come in 6in and if I just reduce will I loose massive amount of energy ? Or can I Jeep my 8in chimney pipe save 4500 and just put a 6in liner inside and buy the new stove ?

So what do you do when you have a insulated 6 inch liner that won't make it past the damper at the fireplace? I'm stuck in that situation right now. 1 other thing... presuming you get the liner past the damper... how do you close off the edges from air flow? Thanks. :)
