I like the theme of Vegeta’s own constant pushing of himself, always trying to press everything, always being too amped up and not relaxing being prevalent to him struggling to become a SS and then he just didn’t care anymore which let him let go and stop forcing it, like Goku does, and he naturally turned into a SS, just like Whis told him so many years later. If Toriyama did that Whis scene with something this old in mind, that’s a brilliant call back then.

It's crazy how much and how hard it was to become a Super Saiyan back then, now it's just that tingly feeling in your back. The Super Saiyan transformation was actually taken seriously.
