VEGETA'S Character Arc EXPLAINED! - Dragon Ball Z & Dragon Ball Super

Vegeta, the name alone carries so much weight - even here in the real world. Pride. Prince. Powerful. Pink shirt? One of these is definitely different from the others, but it's surprisingly also important. Vegeta has a very rich character arc that compliments the relatively good development that he has. Today I’d like to talk about Vegeta’s arc and development over the course of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super in order to explain why he is who he is now.

Vegeta cares about Goku, as a friend, as a rival, and as one of his subjects, as the prince of all saiyans

Aren't we all more like Vegeta than ze like to admit? We all have someone that we want to surpass, we all have our pride and along the way he learned something we are all familiar with : we will do everything to protect the ones we love, even if it seems hopeless. Yeah Kakarotto is the hero...but nobody I've ever met does all the things that he does out of kindness. We do it cuz of pride. Vegeta is more human-like than that low class, good hearted saiyan will ever be.

To be fair, Vegeta is quite similar to Piccolo (including the VO xD) He is much more harsh in his criticism than Piccolo, and is very egotistical. However he has always been honest, He was honest about Gohan being powerful for a kid (and trunks too.) He was the one that defended Gohan from freeza's death beam.
defended Goku's pride and respect as a fighter, he was shocked at Goku sending Gohan out to fight Cell, he recognised that he f**ked up when he went apesh*t on Cell and apologised to Gohan for his mistake.
He disciplined Gohan for fighting Dabura poorly, reminding him that Krillin and Piccolo's lives were on the line, he was shocked when Goku threatened South Kai, as that was out of character.
After fighting Goku he apologises to Gohan (likely feeling bad for helping Buu to be revived.), sacrificed himself for Trunks, bulma and Goku.
agreed to fuse with Goku to save his family, got angry at Goku for leaving Gohan and Goten to die, got angry at Goku for trying to whore out Bulma, admitted to himself that Goku was better than him.

Stayed behind to support Bulma during her pregnancy, Got angry at Cabba for his lack of pride, promised to bring back U6, saved Roshi's life, Told roshi to give up before he 'Croaks'
used his promises and the things he is fighting for to go ascended blue, swore he would not cast aside those he loved and respected, 'sacrificed' himself to knock Toppo out of the ring.
Kept trying to fight jiren despite being utterly drained, apologised to Bulma that he could not keep his promise, entrused goku to carry out his promises, defended Goku's honour by mocking Belmont on his arrogance, gave goku the usual anime speech.

Yunno, i saw this vid come out weeks ago and thought “I’m sure it’s good but everyone knows Veggie’s story”. Watchin for the first time now I appreciate the “Vegeta’s pride now encompasses those around him, even more so then himself “ or something like that.

As a kid he is my favorite of all in dragon ball cause he looks cool and now I'm going to enter to the world of adult I think he is still my favorite because now his coolest and I love to see him happy with his family and I see how he truly care and love his family 💙

Meanwhile Fitness youtubers: goku wasn't able to defeat raditz just a year ago, now he's on par with Vegeta.. do you think it's natural?

I never liked him the first time I watched dbz. That was until his death scene during the freeza arc. I was actually moved to tears (i was 15 lol). I grew to like him a lot. Then, when he trashed the android and sacrificed himself for his son, he became my favorite. Looking back, I see a lot of myself in him. I think thats why it was such a slow process, the mirror is never pretty at first. But to this day Vegeta is 100% my favorite character in dbz. :)

8:14 I just wanna point out for funsies, during that 7 year period, and allowing Trunks to train with him, Vegeta finds out while training in the gravity chamber, that Trunks as a young boy already has attained Super Saiyan, leading to one of my favorite lines: "Oh of course naturally it's a super saiyan bargain sale"
