Google's New Auto Reply App Brings Smart Replies To Your Messages

Google's secret Area 120 Labs has released a new beta app called "Reply" that supposedly brings the Smart Reply features from Allo to other messaging platforms. When you receive a message from a supported messaging or social platform, it either provides contextually aware responses based on your location, whether or not you're traveling, or the message itself. In other situations, it provides an automated response based on your settings. We take a quick hands-on with Google Reply Beta and see how useful Smart Replies actually are and get an idea for where Google is heading with its messaging platforms.

It seems pointless to me that Google keeps developing new partial apps... It's like having a lot of remote controls for your TV... Just master combining Allo with SMS, Duo and this with each other instead of giving us more remote controls.... Hook us up with a universal all-in-one remote.

Problem is it stops you from actioning on notifications with Pebble.

Hiya! I know this post is now a year old but in case you still get notified... 😁. Have there been any updates on this or to this or was the whole project killed? I haven't heard anything about it and I never get them from anyone, android or ios. But I seem to recall that there used to be something like this in the early 2010s. It wasn't necessarily an auto reply per se, but I recall that the options included: in a meeting, I'm on my way, I'm not going to make it, and I think one of your choosing. I just thought of it too and it occurred to me that I haven't gotten any of those in forever and I don't see them as an option in settings or anywhere else. But if they had it before, then why ditch it and have nothing, and then reinvent the wheel with this thing that doesn't work? Sorry for the long question. I just don't want all these friggin texts anymore. And I want to tell ppl to call if they need to speak to me. It's gotten totally ubnoxious and out of control! Thanks for your help!

It doesn't work on other languages as well, I think. Everytime I received messages on other languages, the only suggestions I got were something like, "I love you" or something else weird.

Ugh i like the driving reply but i hate the auto reply when i'm away from my phone. Like i was ignoring someone the other day and then it started replying to them FOR ME. Talk about awkward. lol

Does this only work if you're connected to the internet/data? We're going on a cruise and thought this would be nice to use, but only if it's going to work while my phone is in 'Airplane' mode. Do you know the answer to this?

Hi, this app was working on my Xiaomi Mi 6 under Android 7.1.1 but it's not working anymore under Android 8, it can see my notification as long as it's still showing the Reply icon instead of my WhatsApp Icon in the notification tray but it doesn't suggest any answer, do you have any solution ? Thanks

Sir I am not getting notification dot on the app which has received notification rather I get notification dot on 'reply' app itself. Currently running on Android Oreo. If you have any solution please reply. Thanks.

I wonder if we can mix this app with tasker to send this automatic reply when we are connected to the bluetooth of the car. I won't use it but that's an interesting idea to think about, in order to ge a better idea.

Is it possible to send messages to specific person on the specific time automatically? For example I want to send a message to person 'abc' on 3:30 pm automatically. plz reply

Google doesn’t support or improve old apps. It’s always a dumb idea to create a new app for every new idea. Why not embed these into existing apps as new futures. The list of deprecated apps keeps growing.
