The time Terraria trolled everyone

In today's Terraria video we're taking a look back at the time Re-Logic trolled the Terraria community by announcing the totally fake (but real) Duke Fishron.

Fun fact: the Calamity Mod's very own "sequel" to Duke Fishron, The Old Duke was also added on April 1st

the tidal moon sounds like maybe it was the original concept for the lunar event. You fight a boss, and when you kill it, it summons an event. As you progress through the event, you can upgrade your gear. And when you beat it, you get to fight the final boss.

Honestly, the biggest troll here is that the ocean biome never actually got an upgrade or rework since. If I was to get just one more final final truly final for real this time update, I'd want an Ocean Overhaul!

Duke fishron is my favorite boss and I would never think that it was meant to be a troll. Cenx and Redd are such trolls in the development team but they make so many good items

I feel like the Tidal Moon event was an idea they had which was then scrapped but they then kept the Duke as its own thing.

Later they reused the idea for the lunar event, where instead of Conch of Fish(boss) --> Tidal Moon(event) -->Duke Fishron(final boss of the game) it became Lunatic Culist(boss) --> Lunar Event --> Moon Lord(final boss of the game).

Considering how the Moon and Ocean are tied together in real life, I am a bit upset that the Tidal Moon Event doesnt exist.

A classic troll. The Aquarian Horde was a frightening prospect considering it had the ability to destroy your world. Someone should bring this to life in a mod haha

Considering the discription, it feels like the original concept was used mostly for the Betsy event, the Old One's Army.
"Keep the buildings intact" might refer to the crystal you have to protect
"Believes in fair and balanced competition" and the event being "scalable" might refer to the progressing tiers

But I also notice some influence in the Martian Madness (killing a fish thing to start the invasion) and the lunar pillars (progress equipment and facing the ultra boss at the end)

So, it feels like a big event was scraped and scattered among a new optional boss and other events

I knew that Duke Fishron would actually be a thing, but I remember looking for a "Water Sword" that I saw on a fake screenshot, being disappointed it wasn't a thing lol

that "aquaria is coming" line goes kinda hard honestly. like as a dichotomy between terraria coming from terrarium and aquaria from aquarium. sounds good

I remember the first time I ran into Duke Fishron, back in like 2015. I kept losing to the mech bosses, so I was just looking for another boss to fight, and I saw duke fishron on the wiki. Took me like an hour to get the stupid truffle worm, it rose out of the water and one shot me. I was horrified

I remember this super well - I can even remember exactly where I was sitting in my high school reading the post on TerrariaOnline. Man, the screenshot of the OLD forums gave me some memories.

Something funny is that the Spirit mod has the ocean event 'The Tide' which, while different to pumpkin and frost moons, is still a huge fest of enemies. Patiently waiting for its port to 1.4.4 tmodloader :>
