It's 2am in the morning Nov 2021 and I'm watching this - it's a timeless classic even though it was uploaded 10 years ago. Thank you Dr. Brian Cox for been part of our amazing universe.

The most important image in the history of human kind.

Can we assume that the spectrum of light from these sources of light contains the gasses present? This is such a remarkable scale.

Who needs acid? We've got the ultra deep field! Don't contemplate it for too long though, you'll go cross eyed.

@DeeArtist321 ...no need to be sorry neither for your english or explanation to a 12y old. My post was intended not to criticize your response, but to ad to your information. I think it great that youtube can capture the interest (in science) of young people, & inspire others, such as yourself, to engage in dialogue that feeds that interest & helps keep it alive. At age 12, I read nothing but Popular Science & Mechanics Illustrated magazines, & would have loved to have a forum such as this .

@DeeArtist321 you say ("image" is a light reflection)
this is somewhat confusing... in reality, when you look to the sky, true, a planet is in fact the light reflection from its nearest source of light, but when you view a star, you are (I should think) viewing the photons from light source itself... plus perhaps around its periphery, the objects illuminated by the source.

@waysworth You're right. Sorry, English is not my first language ;)
Anyway, I was trying to make it easier for a 12y. old to understand, and when you say "photons" - kids run and hide under the bed...
:))

The thing that first comes to mind about the image is that the galaxies are fully formed and equally spaced. But the big bang theory suggests that the further back in time you look, the closer together the galaxies should be. Does this not show the theory to be incorrect?

I think they do and are just ignorant.

@DeeArtist321 ... I understand... and it is difficult to know how far to explain something that is in fact not fully understood by anyone. And it is I suppose how planets became gods, and light became photons.
Believers will now say "but we know what photons are, via scientific experiment"... true, but then we have to try to explain how light can be a particle and a wave at the same time, and why we can see the wave but not the particle... fuck it, let's just call it "Photon, the God of light"

Sometimes I ask myself, how are we supposed to know this is true? How do we know all of this isn't just one big lie?

Lol it’s funny how he thinks it’s a fact.
