Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this segment is 1 out of 13 million positions that Hubble can focus on in every single direction around us. So multiply the number of galaxies you see in this 1 segment & multiply it by 13 million. I think that is how astronomers are getting their numbers. And supposedly, all this that we can possibly see is only 4% of what's out there; we cannot yet see the other 96% of the universe.

It just makes you wonder, if we could travel to each and every single star system in every single Galaxy, and gaze upon each planet for life, imagine what we could find. Planets with all forms of life ranging from simple bacteria to complex and Advanced beings. Or perhaps something we can't even comprehend.

Did this on the back of an envelope, so check my math. Hubble Ultra Deep Field images indicate an isotropic (uniform spatial distribution) average of around 15, 000 visible galaxies per 2.6 square arcminutes (an arcminute is1/60th of a second). Given an average Earth circumference of 21, 600 nautical miles, a complete sphere contains 4π(10, 800/π)˄2, or 466, 560, 000/π, or 148, 510, 660 square arcminutes, so dividing 148, 511 x 10˄3 by 2.6 and multiplying by 15, 000 = 8.57 x 10˄9 observable galaxies. Assuming each galaxy has 300 billion stars, which is a mid-range estimate of our own medium-sized galaxy, this equals something like 2.57 x 10˄19 (or 2 sextillion 570 quintillion) stars. Don't talk to me about what's beyond the cosmic event horizon.

Its mind boggling how much is cramped in one small fraction of sky. Imagine the entire sky?..or even the entire observable Universe?..the entire Universe? Theres so much out there. Even there is only one civilization per galaxy thats already way over a trillion civilizations in the Universe
