OLAY PRICING SCANDAL - The Truth About Olay Skincare

Sharing my thoughts on the new launches by Olay skincare and some of the pricing strategies being used with this outrageously overpriced skincare line.

Hey guys and welcome back to Mad About Skin where in todays video we are discussing the new launches form Olay skincare and some of the criticisms being levels at the brand for the outrageous pricing of the products and some of the 'offers' which are being used.

Olay is a brand which I tend to avoid here on the channel, they are not a cruelty free brand and generally speaking I find their products a little basic and outdated. This could have all changed with the launch of their new line of skincare moisturizers which have flashy new packaging and ingredients but also an outrageous price tag to them.

In this video I want to discuss some of the issues being called out with the 'offers' on the new products and the quality of the formulations so you guys can make an informed decision on whether you want to buy them.

I would love to know what you think too the new Olay products and whether you have tried them yet so let me know in the comments below.

If you enjoyed this video then please help me to get this message out there by giving it a thumbs up and a like.

Oil of Olay beauty fluid was the only skincare product my grandmother used (with the Noxema balmish cleanser), and her skin was beautiful until the day she passed at 96.

Stopped buying Olay when they went over $20 for everything!

Great video...it seems all the American brands are raising their prices sky high. I wish people would not support outrageous prices. I've been buying k beauty for years and have gotten beautiful products, and an expensive Niod every now and then, but don't insult my intelligence with mediocre products carrying a much too high price point.

I still have a tendency to call them Oil of Olay.😆 I grew up using their body wash, and sometimes my brain refuses to accept that the 90s are over. (They're back in style anyway, right? I've seen teens wearing those velvet crop tops and t-shirts under dresses!😂)

My mom loves the basic red jar one & with coupons I can usually pick it up for less than 20 bucks at CVS. Look, it prob works nicely for her cuz it has lots of plumping Hyaluronic Acid in it & it’s not irritating for her. The rest of Olay’s products I ignore & would never get any of it for myself. I’m sure they have such wide distribution cuz they’re owned by a huge company, but I bet their sales are still quite good & it’s clearly very popular!

Have not used Olay in like 15-20 yrs since they are not cruelty free. I do remember back in high school in the early 1970's we all had the pink bottle in our bags thinking it would keep our skin young looking forever. Everyone had Noxzema to wash their face, Seabreeze toner and then Oil of Olay moisturizer...my face hurts just thinking about what we put on our faces. Oh we were so naive back then lol

Hi Rob these are indeed on sale somewhere all the time. The ultra rich version of the regenerist fragrance free moisturiser is ok at half price for me, but I have finnicky skin that reacts to a lot of skincare. I have used it a few times, but it's not a favourite and most certainly not worth upwards of £35. The right price of these moisturisers is around £20 - when you look at the offers they sort of balance out at this price point (around £17 to £22). It's a pleasant texture and doesn't irritate my skin like cereve, L'Oreal and others in a similar price point, available in my local stores. If I'm going to spend around £30 on a moisturiser then it will be on the paula's choice clinical ultra rich moisturiser (which is my favourite day cream for my skin, outwith the Summer). When you look at the INCI lists of PC in comparison to olay, they're not cheap however you are getting a better product for your £30 plus. If I had less severely dry skin and normal moisturisers worked well for me, then budget moisturisers or K beauty moisturisers would be a preferred choice. Sometimes the budget picks don't always work out that great though (the Beauty Bay thirst class moisturiser I tried a few weeks ago wasn't moisturising enough and yet caused pimples). I'm super dry and never get pimples, but after trialling this moisturiser that happened and it was the only new thing in my routine (I'm done with perimenopause and don't have hormonal fluctuations that might have made this a coincidence).
I'm 50 so I do remember using oil of Ulay, but in the white bottle for sensitive skin alongside the Ann French sensitive cleansing milk throughout my teens. My gran and great aunt used it all their lives and both had pretty skin into their seventies and nineties respectively. I don't like this type of marketing that they're doing, but they are really a popular brand within the normal consumer base. Outwith all the people interested in skincare, most people throw it in with their weekly shop or pop into their local boots or superdrug to buy a face cream. These people are not going to order less known brands from overseas or from online only retailers - they are not interested enough to seek out something else that might work better, but isn't as easily accessible. These are the people this brand is targeting - those who recognise the name and watch the ads on tv. Best wishes.

If I was in the UK, I'd just by Simple and Revolution or Boots Ingredients vitamin c products. Decently reputable brands, affordable and cruelty free.

My mom bought me the Olay regenerist a couple years ago and it’s the only moisturizer I’ve stuck with lol I’ve bought other ones but this one is the only one that hasn’t dried and/or broke me out. It’s the one olay product I use.

Where I live you can quite often get Olay products in a buy-one-get-one-free deal, but prices have gone up. I used their 7 in 1 fragrance free daycream for years, but stopped using it because the brand is not cruelty free. Also, the fragrance free cream is the only one in their range that doesn't have an SPF and I quite like a built-in SPF in fall and winter instead of a separate sunscreen.

I hate paying for the brand name and not for the actual ingredients. It's weird to me when I see people using a $100 skin care product when there are other brands with either the same ingredients of better for 10x less.

What I believe is sad about Olay is that there are so many older people that rely on it for skin care and they have a very strict budget that they have to stick to and being that that's pretty much the generation that uses Olay you would think that you try to Market yourself well so that they can continue to afford it and buy it otherwise you're pricing yourself out of the market.

One of my first beauty products was the original pink oil of Olay, I loved the smell and affordability. I’m now 66 and don’t purchase any of their items . I use my money for RX Retin a, vitamin c and the ordinary ( miss Hylamide sub q) peptides.

So it’s okay to apply lactic acid and vitamin C on top of each other? I’m new to skincare and didn’t think you could use those together. Can I apply toner, TO lactic acid, Timeless Vitamin C, Timeless Coenzyme Q10, followed by moisturizer?

I’ve never been interested in using any Olay products, they seem outdated. Your skin looks very glowing today 😃

£38?! No way - what a bunch of chancers. I wonder if the strategy for this is to sell the product on the basis it will _not_ be repurchased? This is happening a lot these days.

The only Olay product I repeatedly buy is an older one: Age Defying Classic Daily Renewal Cream. The US version has Salicylic acid, and that helps the appearance of my pores. It’s an older product and not that expensive. The simple ingredient list might appeal to skin types that can’t tolerate niacinamide.

Just took part for the first time to one of your live streams: great fun and thanks for replying to my question about resveratrol and retinal.
I actually have a resveratrol moisturizer (the Caudalie night cream) rather than a serum, which is why I asked if I could apply it AFTER retinal. I wasn't sure if I could pair them in the same night routine.
See you on your next live 😊👍🤗
