Very important, Be sure to remove all grass build up from the blade before you begin because you need to check the blade to make sure it's balanced after sharpening
A blade out of balance will cause vibration and premature bearing failure
Place the blade on something smooth and round such as a piece of copper pipe or something else smooth and round
Make sure the center hole of the blade is centered on the round object, When the blade is balanced, it will sit straight and level, The end that dips down need to be ground a little bit to get the blade balanced
Whenever you use a grinder, Always have a spray bottle of water with you because you need to spray the blade to cool it down
Be very careful not to let the blade get beyond hot to the touch, Otherwise if you let the blade get too hot, You will draw the temper and ruin the blade, So grind for a short time and spray the blade with water and continue to prevent drawing the temper
Lawnmower blades are heat treated and tempered, So using a file is definitely not recommended because hardened steel will dull a file quickly, I've ruined a couple of files using them to sharpen a blade, Files for metal are for use on mild steel or other soft metals like copper or brass
Remember to grind the blade at short intervals and spray with water to prevent overheating the blade and drawing the temper which will ruin the blade
. DANGER ⚠️
If you have a blade that's bent from hitting a large object such as a large rock or tree stump, NEVER NEVER ATTEMPT TO STRAIGHTEN THE BLADE BY HEATING IT WITH A TORCH,
The part that was heated with a torch will be dangerously weakened and the blade could snap and send the broken part flying with enough force to kill a person if struck by it
A guy I know straightened a blade by heating it with a torch and when he used the lawnmower, The blade snapped and the broken part went through the side of his garage, Had that broken part hit a person would have been seriously injured or killed
In everything you do
ALWAYS PUT SAFETY FIRST !!!!
