How To Seek Truth In A World Of Confusion (Spiritual Truth vs. Narrative Truth)

Are you a truth seeker? What do you seek? And where?

The human impulse to seek truth is like a plant’s impulse to grow towards the sun. It’s innate, part of our DNA. But what represents the sun? What are we instinctively drawn towards? It’s our true nature, the Self residing not in the sky, but in the soul.

In this video I explain the difference between spiritual truth and narrative truth. I highlight how the truth-seeking impulse is being exploited and projected onto the external world, rather than searched for within. This is what Carl Jung calls the religious impulse.

If you're feeling confused, these tips will help direct your self-enquiry. Instead of searching for truth in narrative, redirect the truth-seeking impulse within, towards what Vedic philosophy calls Satya (truth), a quality of the absolute reality, Brahman.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience, Ricky. There is always so much to learn from these videos. I was a firm believer that post-modernism and the diffusion of metanarratives were to a large extent very liberating as opposed to the dominance of a unified structural authority. But it is so easy to lose oneself in these individual narratives and the most it has led to is conflicts of ideas and polarised opinions. It also makes it very difficult to sift through the sea of information and find the truth. From what I have understood from following your videos and reading your amazing e-book, spiritual truth is experiential and not intellectual. But as a creature of habit, I find that having some intellectual knowledge as a base is really helpful to navigate the spiritual path ( and content like yours which is universal in its approach has been a savior for me). So many thanks for sharing these with the world. I found your channel in a much-needed time in my life and I am grateful for that. I can make out a couple of books on the background, "Ways to go beyond" and "Spiritual Science" to be precise. Could you please share the other titles as well or if you have created a reading list somewhere, it would be really helpful to follow that. Thank you!
