Learn about EBSD 1: What is Microstructure?

We delve into the electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) technique, starting with an overview of what is meant by crystallinity, a look at crystalline materials and an introduction into the concept of microstructure.

Using animated sketches, we explain crystallinity in materials, look at the difference between single crystals and polycrystalline materials and introduce the term “microstructure”. Finally, we show why the microstructure is so important and how it can influence the physical properties of materials.
