Learn about EBSD 4: The applications of EBSD

Learn about how the electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) technique is being used across a range of industries and research fields to solve specific materials problems.

Using animated sketches, we demonstrate how the EBSD technique can provide the necessary information to understand the formation and properties of a range of crystalline materials. We demonstrate how EBSD is commonly used to measure the phases, texture and grain size in duplex steels and how it can help researchers understand the process of crack propagation. Finally, we look at the different microstructural information that is typically measured using EBSD and highlight the dominant application fields of the technique.
