I did not know olive oil was used to light lamps back in the day. Very neat looking plant, looks like it belongs in the southwest deserts.

I was quite surprised to find out that olive trees thrive in Arizona despite being native to the Mediterranean. The trees need a lengthy hot summer and a cool but non-frigid winter to survive.

This is actually my first time seeing an olive plant, I had always assumed they just grew on trees because the saying says Branch. It is cool to see the actual plant and get a visual representation of an olive branch.

While researching this plant, I found all the health benefits of olives from Olea europaea extremely interesting. For example, they can be used as mild laxatives and blood thinners.

One of oldest olive trees in the world is on the island of Crete and is still producing fruit after 4, 000 years. This absolutely blows my mind. It is so crazy how one plant has made such an impact on the world not only as a food source but as a respected symbol. It is crazy to think about the long life span of this certain plant and that the oldest one is still alive and producing fruit today!!

That really interesting how in the mediterranean they can grow up to 20ft wide by 20ft tall but here in the US they're used as a container plant and may not even produce any olives.
