Unfortunately, while the way olive trees keep living is clearly great for longevity, the flip side is that it's completely rubbish for getting any sort of accurate dates or true ages. So precisely HOW old these trees are is and will always be up for debate.
But OLIVE them are lovely regardless 🍈

Right now there is a "trend" of having old olive trees at home, so millenias old trees are unearthed and sold for thousands of euros. The trees never last long, and in my opinion it should be a crime to do that kind of business

It breaks my heart how many of these magnificent trees were killed maliciously

We had olive trees growing up, and one got struck by lightning and was completely burnt up. We were convinced it was dead, and about three years later, it started sprouting again. Amazing trees.

I have a small olive grove and it was completely burned to the ground eight years ago, already the trees have grown shoots that are ten feet high and bearing reasonable olive crops phenomenal.

It really blows my mind when we're talking about a tree that's 3, 4 or even five thousand years old....
To think that all that time has passed, and nobody uprooted that tree or cut it down. No one needed to build anything there like a road or a house... Everyone for thousands of years worked around that tree and didn't kill it for any reason!
While at the same time we have entire forests of trees, we can't leave alone.

I guess I just liked the idea that someone decided "a tree goes here" and everyone for thousands of years agreed with that random guy.😊

My great uncle owns large fields of olive trees that he inherited from my great grandpa, about 6 months ago they were all completely b0mb3d and burnt to the ground I'm hoping everyday that they can sprout again and grow from the ashes..
some of these precious trees are over 200 years old and they've been in my family for generations, providing oil for soap and cooking for my mom's entire hometown and other towns around and this year was the first year i ever had to get my olive oil from the supermarket.. feels different for sure

I remember as a kid we had an olive tree in our backyard when we lived in Tripoli, Libya. Being in that tree was my favorite place.

Wow, up in the north of Portugal my family has some 200 olive trees that we keep and extract some 700-800 liters of 100% pure virgin olive oil, everything is done manually, a lot of work but very much worth it as we know some of our trees are 400 and plus years old and we keep them to honour our family ancestors that worked hard to keep this trees. Twice a year we have to go there to trim the new shoots that -now I know- the mother keeps sending up. Next time up there I know there's a mother we also must honour. Thank you very much. Next time you're in Portugal, get in touch and we'll offer you some of our wonderful olive oil.

As someone who is of Cypriot origin I can honestly say that olive trees have a soul.My grandmother loved her trees more than her family and she told us many times that she did.
Just to say thank you for this channel and that your enthusiasm and knowledge make me jealous, as does your glorious hair😊🎉

Friends of mine in the West Bank have had their thousand year olive trees cut down by the occupation forces. It is really reassuring and heartwarming to know that their trees are still alive under the soil and will recover when this hellhole is over ❤️

I’ve never heard anything described as “when Pythagoras was looking at his triangles”… but that contextualized it perfectly! Thank you!

I'm sad the maple tree in my neighbors yard got cut down. That tree was there before my house was built in 1917. It was there before the airports. It was there before the formation of the USA. When I was a kit it took all the neighborhood kids to link hands just to hug the damn thing. They cut it down. :(
