Calculate overlapping land area in QGIS

If you have one polygon that covers parts of a larger polygon and you want to know what area and % of the smaller area covers the larger area then this video might just be what you need. In this example I look at the coverage of green belt land in local government areas across England. The end result is a new dataset where we have an area and a % column added to our original local government area file, showing what area and % of each is covered by green belt.

Note that if you are using data for larger, more complex areas this tool can take a while to run.
