Pretty simple to me...guy makes $800K a year...I am sure that was the biggest appeal to the pirates

It's just an underwhelming move in every sense of the word. Horwitz is a platoon option and nothing about him jumps off the page as some major needle-mover. If anything it just comes across as a typical small-market trade.

They have the best pitching they'll ever gonna have, at least for the foreseeable future and Skenes and Jones wont be here for very long knowing this owner. Their window is very small and they're wasting it by going and making moves for platoon bats and sub-par level players.

What a franchise

In 1974, the Dodgers moved a mid-20's, 5'10" infielder who had shown little power to as, Steve Garvey was born. Great once every 50 years it works. Good luck Mr. Horwitz.

Hey DK! Happy holidays...just a small dose of optimism on the Horwitz trade. In 1998, a 28 year old outfielder with excellent plate discipline but only 34 doubles and 33 home runs in 881 plate appearances during his first extended look for the Cleveland baseball team in 1997-1998 (after never hitting more than 20 home runs in the minors) was peddled to the Pittsburgh Pirates for mediocre reliever Ricardo Rincon. Brian Giles went on to have four and a half years of undisputedly some of the best offensive numbers in team history. It does validate your stance that giving up Rincon was the price of doing business for Giles while Horwitz you know. I have a feeling that Spencer has the potential to be at the least a professional hitter given the lack of frustrating chase and the .337 combined batting average in his final two years in the minors. Merit hope?

I don't agree the pirates will spend up to 100mil. I think they're going to stay right where they're at.

I own the trademark on Horrorwitz, yet another bargain basement Bucco doomed for failure.

He'll probably start watching strikes go by and eventually turn into Suwinski 2.0.

Horwitz played for the Blue Jays last year, not the Guardians, DK. If he turns out to be a platoon piece at first base, the trade will be a big miss, much worse than an over pay.

I don’t hate the move but I don’t love it. Guess we’ll see

i watch a Cleveland podcast and they couldn't believe the Pirates were dumb enough to give up anything for Horwitz. I called it BC's worst trade and I got heat from a lot of Pirate fans online. I think Billy Cook would be better at first.

If he is good he'll be traded by the all star break for a player to be named later.

I thought the Pirates were all about analytics? Then we make these decisions!?

this guy did hit 12 homeruns in partime duty so who knows maybe he can it between 25 and 30 homeruns playing full time and if bryan delacruz can hit like he did in the AL we might just have ourselves a couple power hitters well three because i fogot about oneil cruz

You mention reynolds bouncing around as weird but like.... thats what it was always going to be. They were never going to make him the 1b full time right away.

I do not have any faith in GMBC to evaluate talent and on the face of this, feels like an overpay. I hope I am wrong.

It will be very surprising if this guy works out. Right now looks like a bad trade and that is not surprising!

Maybe we’re approaching the “sell the team” campaign all wrong. Bob will never sell the team. But he just might trade the team to a 27 year old Slippery Rock grad with a degree in business and a C+ average.

Talk to blue Jay's fans who after he was traded to guardians were upset he was traded . And said to pirates fans we were getting a good one
