Im highly skeptical they can optimize it enough to not drain the battery in 20 minutes.

I would pay $70 for that new handheld. Take it or leave it.

My only problem with his opinion on these handhelds is he only cares about the power behind and not the overall experience the ROG ally is stronger sure but runs a worse os experience and has a crappy battery life at that preformance and when you get the battery life to match by down clocking it you get a very similar experience so unless you only want an hour of gameplay on the go at these settings or you plan on running it attached to a wall often which kinda defeats the point. The steam deck just makes a better option for most people.

Wasn't the point of the Steamdeck that it would force companies to actually optimise their games to run well on non top-of-the-line hardware?

It’s not about the fps, it’s about the fact that they offer nothing new. They’re just a pc in your hands, so what, we have laptops for that

It doesn't matter whatever they put in the handheld, as long as it's being held back by the battery, you might as well get a desktop.

Yeah, no, I'll stick to the steam deck, the ROG Ally is already ridiculously expensive for around 20% more power and not to mention, shorter battery life

Guys can I just point out you don’t need something like this if you already have a pc. Get something for Indy games but running starfield on ultra at 120 fps is going to kill your battery in less than an hour.

I would say the problem here is people pretending they should be able to play Cyberpunk 2077 on the go. What purpose is a portable handheld gaming if you need to be tethered at all times to a wall socket, or you can't hold it because the case reached 80°C?

The problem with handheld is the cooler. You can put a powerhouse CPU in there but the temp will be always the limitation for the CPU to be use 100%

Depending on GPU performance, this might be something that we can see in Valve’s other project Galileo

Software > hardware this is the reason why the steam deck will win overtime

I dont want a beefier handheld console... I want a linux based one that lasts on battery and doesnt overheat

I’m gonna be honest chief, as long as the game is fun I don’t care about that stuff

I don't think the steam deck resolutionized handheld gaming necessarily because it was faster than the switch. I don't think it gains nearly enough attraction if it was any more than $400. Being able to play majority of your PC library for less than the PS5 is pretty good. Cuz quite frankly, there's plenty of handhelds that are much better than the steam deck. But none of them compare and price

We'll the day they finalise the specs it's out of date lol. I'm just happy it's brought more competition and a great os that is open source so the competition can use it on their hardware

Not only is the battery going to die insanely fast but you will also technically be holding a small nuclear reactor which is about to go critical at how hot its going to be

Now I'm fascinated with whatever cooling solutions that thing will rock

Like bro after what happened with the launch of the ROG Ally (and with all the factory defects it came out with) I doubt some other handheld will be able to even manage to take over the throne of the steam deck
