- -
The Kardashev scale is a method used to determine a civilization's technological advancement, which divides civilizations into three types, with type 1 being the simplest civilization of all.
The civilization created by the human race is not yet advanced enough to be considered a type 1 civilization. How long until we reach that classification? Stay to find out.

Astrophysicist Nikolai Kardashev developed the Kardashev scale in 1964 to determine some characteristics that would facilitate the search for extraterrestrial life.
After analyzing several conditions in the history of the human race, Kardashev realized that there is a need that grows as civilization does, energy.
As the human race has expanded worldwide, so needs for energy.
TYPE 1 CIVILIZATION ON THE KARDASHEV SCALE
A type 1 civilization has managed to create the technology to take advantage of every last drop of energy that its planet produces and the energy it receives from its star.
Currently, if we count all the existing methods of electricity generation such as wind energy, geothermal, maremothermal, osmotic, wave, tidal, hydraulic, and of course, solar energy, the planet earth is capable of providing between 1016 and 1017 Watts of energy to humanity, however of that total, we only take advantage of 0.7%, that is why currently the human race can not yet be classified as a type 1 civilization.
Human civilization is found in type 0 civilization, that is, one that has not yet learned to harness the total energy of its planet.
But how long until human civilization reaches the rank of Type 1 on the Kardashev scale?

It would be great. Particularly if all such technology was available for everyone, everywhere.

If we were a type 1 civilization we wouldn't have to worry about climate change anymore. I would love to see that happen in my lifetime .... not sure if it will in my lifetime though.

Humanity might have to be brought to a point of almost disaster before they make this happen though.

I think it would be nice too if they could terraform the parts of the planet that aren't being well used and make good use of the whole planet but in harmony with the planet too,

I've heard claims that put Humans at a 0.8 civilization. Considering a total incapability at even slowing sea level rise, much less earthquakes or volcanoes, I'd put us at about 0.3, maybe.

Kardachev scale is totally outdated and "physicist-biased". It is obvious that since 1964 we've understood that most functions supporting human civilization are carried out spontaneously by nature. Type I would be more like not disrupting key ecosystems. Biology is also paramount to exploit energy and control climate...just consider the possibilities of synthetic biology ! We'll have "synthetic ecosystems" one day.

Another key problem will be to be able to produce our own metals and minerals without relying on mining because - using conventional methods - we'll convert the whole planet into a giant mine and release hazardous by-products everywhere before arriving anywhere near type I... Type I should involve producing and recycling everything we need without feeding on unsustainable sources of raw materials.

Very interesting. Why can’t we already approach parallel to the Type 2 civilization instead of waiting the type 1 to happen. I believe we already have quite explored the type 1 but due to the fossil lobbies we hardly reach this level. And who will finance a global energy project. Anyway I’m glad for the future generations who will live in quite a different way than I do today. Thank you

Don't get how type 1 is planet but we need fusion to reach type 1 but type 2 is star but stars do fusion..

this was really interesting, i like the idea of using the natural energy of the planet but to be honest it also started to seem a little sad near the end, like still cool but I love stormy weather and cold winters, will they just be gone? will they lose some of their beauty if they're so tightly controlled? will this help everyone or further a gap between the poor and the elite? how many will have to live in conditions they don't like because it's being made to benefit someone else or is too unaffordable to move? idk, interesting but I think there's a lot of ways it could go. the best hope of course is a peaceful future for all.

This should be the norm for all people. Let's go ahead and get a move on.😁

Wind, solar and tidal should be used as peeking power after the truedational power plants are at full power!!

100 to 200 years, really, it seems like it would take another 1000 yrs at least to do all of that.

People are funny. Supposedly we're 20 years from the "singularity", while we're 100 years from being a type 1 Kardashev?

Will we be able to build a dyson sphere in the next 100 years?
