Not only do the SSD's lower boot time but they are more responsive, less chance of failure, quieter, and produce little to no heat.

Just bought an SSD today. SO excited for my computer to be snappy quick! Still using an old 7200 rpm as my boot disk, and I'm SO ready for this upgrade.

I bought an SSD in 2020 it is way cheaper now. NVMe M.2 drive. In 2024, there is now NVMe PCIE Gen 4. Wow Linus has been doing this for a long long time.

it's a solid state... it's flash memory. think about it as some thumb drives, on a sata interface...

@patrickmanning94 over 1 year later, are you happy with your new SSD. Did you wait for the Vertex 3's? If so, how much faster is it? I'm thinking about getting 1 250gb OCZ Vertex 3 or maybe two in RAID0 (120GB)

I wonder if anyone will see this. its 2021 and I just upgraded my gaming rig to a m.2 config because I held on to my HDD since this video was made. Not out of spite but just coincidence that i paid so much for the 1tb and refused to let it die.

FYI: How many RPM is the HDD and how many MB RAM?

Raid-1 is for backing up your files. what ever is on your first drive will be copy to your 2nd drive. What you want is for speed is raid-0 which uses two drives as one.

Hey Linus, as others said, Steam was running on the HD machine. That actually greatly slows down your PC's response time, REALLY notable during startup. But the time difference could be seen pretty well anyways, great video :)

Can you test a SSD Raid 1 setup to a single SSD setup. Would be nice to see the difference.

right, although the speed is awesome, the price is really makes you ill..
but however on 3 or 4 years from now most of PC gonna use it, so maybe the best way is waiting until the price goes reasonable..
