I love the idea of warm string lights so you can leave the bright overhead lights off. This is also huge for kids with neuro differences. Those fluorescent lights were horrible for me as a kid with ASD related sensory overload and migraines.

Many schools have regulations about christmas lights or additional lighting (sometimes not enforced) due to them being a fire hazard, especially if connected to an extension cord. Unfortunately, as calming as it is, having low lighting during instructional time can also be an impediment to student learning, especially for students with low vision. Natural lighting is both calming and safe, so if that is accessible, it's a great option. Fluorescent light covers, if approved by the school/fire department, and properly installed and of a safe material, may be another good option... I wish I could cover the walls with christmas lights or daylight lamps, but safety first!

The elementary school that was connected to the school I visited in 5th grade had a calm room called oasis. I was a little jealous, would have needed it. "Problematic" ADHD kid here

These sound like good ideas for schools in general.

Time isn't something teachers have a lot of.

The U.S. education system is just terrible. The kids are being compared based on what the government wants us to know. I completely lost my love of learning as a kid because every classroom just was boring, and the teachers didn't take the time to fully appeal to the kids.

I wish all classrooms had this. But, only very few teachers do it. They just don't care enough.
