Decription

This ice maker on this side by side refrigerator was not working do to a water problem. I found this out by looking to see if there was any water in the ice maker mold. I found none so suspected a water problem. I like to look or feel the water line where the water comes into the ice maker and look for ice. If i see ice I’m automatically looking at a weeping water valve. If you have a newer model I would look into replacing the filter first to see if that will take care of it. On this older model i was not even thinking about it because I have seen so many.

Water valve is the issue. We go ahead and replace the water valve. W10408179, pretty easy to do. Once that is replace we have to clear that ice and i have a good tip in the video for you on how to clear that ice. Once ice is cleared we need to cycle the ice maker and have it fill to make sure we have cleared out all the ice. It may work if you just leave it alone from there but as a technician I like to know if it’s fixed right then and there.

To cycle the ice maker you need to unplug the unit. Take the cover off to the ice maker and jump between the t/h holes to start it. Now there is no power not the unit. You plug the unit back in and make sure the door switch are shut and the emitter receiver are seeing each other. If door is open and the emitter receiver think the tub is full it will not send power to the ice maker. Once that is good plug the unit back in and within a few seconds the ice maker should power back on and it starts to cycle. Take the jumper wire out and put the cover back on and reinstall the ice maker. Once it is in. You simply wait for the ice maker to make its round. If it fills at the end you job here is done. Put anything you took off back on and happy cold water or iced teas you can enjoy now.

Exactly my problem. I figured line was plugged but wouldn't have guessed in the freeser on that tube. You are awesome for taking time to film this and share info on the problem. Thanks a million!

Thank you sir! Of the 20 or so videos I found on the subject, yours got me all the way through to making ice again. I salute you.

So appreciative of you sharing this video! Your one-line sentence about saying that if ice was sitting in the bottom of the maker then it's broken saved me tons of diagnostic time (I just bought a replacement ice maker) and your take out/put back was pivotal in me being able to replace it successfully. Thanks so much!

Thanks for posting this video. My ice maker quit about a week ago. I've been trying to get it out ever since. Turns out it was frozen in on the right side. The comment about the screw in the back holding the cover for the electrical connectors helped. I'd already removed it and it was still stuck. I applied some heat with a heat gun and melted enough ice to let it slip out. The ice maker is frozen solid. I will let it thaw overnight in the sink and try it again tomorrow.

This video was a great help! I changed the water valve and then wound up changing the icemaker itself when it still didn't fill with water. For a total of about $75 I fixed an otherwise good working refrigerator and saved over $2k to replace it.

Thanks to the poster of this video. This tip turned out to be a huge money and time saver. I was on the hook to drop almost $3k on a new fridge as mine is quite old and wifey has been asking for a new one for quite some time. A broken ice maker meant I had no other choice but to buy a new one now. However, saw this video and followed the steps and the frozen ice in the tube was the exact problem. Instead of the warm water solution, I used a hair dryer and actually saw the clump of frozen ice move slowly down the tube! Also, the tip for using a jumper between T and H terminals was priceless as the ice maker wasn't turning until I did that step. All in all, the fridge is back in business with around 30 minutes of work on a Sunday morning! Big THANKS!

Thank you for posting this video, I had the same problem. I used a blow dryer to defrost the ice build up and noticed that the sidewall was deforming. I would be careful when defrosting the ice build-up close to the side wall. Now my icemaker has a new pump and is working again.

Thanks I thought my icemaker was bad so I bought a new one and it worked for about a day I sent it back to Amazon and they sent me a replacement same thing. So now I know it’s not the icemaker at all it’s the valve probably. So I will check into that and get a new valve thank you!

This was a great, short video that might not fix everyone's icemaker, but it worked for mine. I just needed the patience and to make sure I was following your directions. I never realized the importance of the 'wire jumper'. I was skeptical at first, as it didn't seem to make a difference, but low and behold it started making ice again. Well done, Sir!

Thank you for sharing this video. I'm having a problem with a tenants ice maker, and was having a hard time finding a similar configuration. Like the problem you encountered, I believe it is a faulty water valve. But your insights have provided me with some excellent information. Thanks again.
