I dont know why the government is not serious about this platform, this is as important as fighter jet, every western countries are moving from heavy tanks to light tanks, germans are focusing more on lynx 120 light tank and also americans are focusing on general dynamics light tank rather than new variant of abrams. GOI should get involved and ask why the germans cant provide the engine. This platform will be very similar to l&t FICV just like the lynx platform.

What I find even more embarrassing is that, after several decades of assembling tanks in the country, our PSUs are unable to develop an indegenous engine to power tanks. We lack the very basics when it comes to defence manufacturing

Engine from Cummins has been selected.
Design will have to be modified; slight changes in engine housing expected.
A slight delay in prototype rollout is expected.
However, since this project is on high priority right now, hence file movement will be expedited.
Some companies have also been asked to work with DRDO on an indigenous engine design & development also!

Let's hope, the chasis is not Korean or the older Abhay. Then it will make no sense designing the project from scratch. K21-105 or Sabrah-105 would be better options. They can offer similar indeginious percentage as DRDOs or even more.

25 T tank, it's too light to be called a light tank. 30-35 T combat weight should be the ideal scenario.

And it's not the fault of DRDO entirely. Government has to increase spending on research substantially. Development, testing and procurement need to be streamlined. The salary of scientists be it DRDO or ISRO has to be increased. An IIT purely dedicated for defence has to be created. In order to India become truly self-reliant, an fully integrated defence ecosystem has to be created between academics, government, industry and defence forces.

Thats why we need aatmnirbhar bharat. If there would have been work on engine development earlier like 'last 70years' then we wouldnt be begging others for engines. And unlike any other case, tank engine requirements is very large of indian army as it maintains 3000+ fleet of tanks

चीन कोई एक रात में तो LT बनाया नहीं था आधे दशक से उसका LT मैं चीनी सोशल मीडिया डिफेंस फोरम में देख रहा था तो क्या सेना नहीं देख सकते थे 1990 में DRDO ने BMP बेस LT बना लिया था जिसे सेना ने साइड कर दिया था ले तो लेते फिर रिफाइन, modify करते रहते..
अब जब चीन LT ले कर खड़ा है तो गड़बड़ हो रहा

A comprehensive Industrial Collaboration can overcome these avoidable situations.
We can develop engines for marine purposes, industrial engines, for locomotive shunting, off-grid power units, special purpose vehicle engines & ofcourse for defence use as well.
All the companies can chip in & can make a variation of these engine & use it according to their needs.
Plus we get a stable supply chain with economies of scale kicking in. Guess, we don't have the intellectual capabilities to understand these basic ideas.
South Korea developed their defence & High Speed Rail in this manner only. If they can do it why can't we. Diesel engines for submarines can be hard but not these ones!
