The logic is that no adcs were banned and both teams want adc counterpick since they believe they have counters to Lucian, Zeri, Kalista and Senna ready (Kog/Twitch/Ashe respectively etc.). To ensure counterpick T1 pick a blind pick champion first (Azir/Corki, the mid blinds, are banned, so they pick blind top), GenG have to pick one of adc or support in the next phase, T1 get bot lane counterpick.

I don’t always agree with gnar, definitely not as a blind pick, but I do think it’s generally a good champion in most cases. You can get by and great players with him make things happen.
