As seen with the Oscar-winning film "The Darkest Hour", makeup and prosthetics enable actors to fully look the part of the role they're playing. Makeup casters use a process called lifecasting. They'll cover the actor in "goop" to create an exact replica, with which they use to build prosthetics to wear. A lot of movies rely on CGI to bring movies to life, but when it can be done, prosthetics truly do enhance the realism of a film.

I'm frustrated that they couldn't have hired an actor with facial differences to play Auggie. There are plenty of young people out there that would have been ecstatic to receive the role. But even in a progressive film like this there are ableist undertones. Live casting is still super cool though. Great video INSIDER!

that devil image from the exorcist on his shirt has always been one of the few things in a 'scary' movie that truly disturbed me as a kid ! but even years ago when i first saw it i knew if it could stir that kind of reaction that meant it was a really good movie <3

Wearing prosthetics can be so irritating at sometimes but also they look so awesome I haven’t done a full face life cast but I have done a full face of latex other products and home made prosthetics
