The pad is great but it gives lower cooling performance. I didn't changed my Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut paste in 3 years, zero issues.

For desktop CPUs, paste it is.
For desktop GPUs, it depends. Either paste or LM.

But for laptops, it definitely very beneficial to have some TIM that's not messy but still reusable. Especially if the place you live can easily gather dusts, you definitely need to clean your fans more often than one usually should do.

Something like Carbonaut, it may be expensive at first but it could save you money in the long run.

I mean, it takes years before I change thermal paste. Unless I'm having thermal issues most of the time it stays.
Most often it gets changed when I get a new cooler or a new cpu

for a regular person who doesn't want to open his pc regularly, pastes are good on IHS. HQ graphite pads are best for direct die (paste pumps out).

for test a test bech where you have to swap cpu's from time to time? yeah pads are really convenient, always get the best ones like the PTM7950.

for a regular person who cleans their pc every 6 months or even a year? paste is way better. a dab of GC Extreme for the gpu and cpu always gets the job done

Pads can't conform itself to keep air from getting between the cpu and fan making it get much hotter. I'll stick with paste.

You're using the wrong pad if paste was better
