We have a problem where the law abiding gun owners defending themselves are savagely prosecuted, and the criminal is set free with little to no repercussions and to add insult to injury launch and win multimillion dollar lawsuits against the victims of their crimes.

Also, people are hesitant to call because they believe that the cops will try to find any reason to arrest them, making them victimized a second time.

I know of a woman who has pulled her gun more 3 or more times to prevent herself from being a victim. In those situations, she just pulled it out and said, "Get away". She didn't point it at the potential predators. She never called the law. She knows of someone who has done something similar, called the law, and she got charged with brandishing a firearm.

Some people don't call because they DON'T know the law, some people don't call because they DO know the law. By calling you draw more legal attention and scrutiny to your own actions than to the actions of those you defended yourself from.

A guy was jumped by two men. He whipped them both, they left and called the cops on him.
He was convicted of assault.
This situation happens often where the original victim is prosecuted for defending oneself.

I would not call if a firearm discouraged a thief, due to the way society is going

I live in a rural area where shooting is a way of life. Almost every day someone is shooting long guns in their acreage. I have defended my livestock from animals in the middle of the night and no one said a thing. If I have to defend myself or my family from a criminal on my property, I'm really not inclined to call the police in today's climate.

This is good info. I was on jury duty for a case where a good guy pulled a gun on a bad guy but didn’t shoot. Bad guy called the cops and spun some BS story. Ultimately, good guy won but he had to have spent tens of thousands on attorneys not to mention the stress.

Unfortunately, encounters like this most likely are going to rise as things get worse in this country. Honestly, I'd personally not like to get cops involved in anything about my life because they're not always there to help you and cannot be trusted. I guess the situation will dictate, though.

It’s so damn hard to navigate being a responsible CCW holder. The last violent incident I had was when I took a walk on the beach late at night when 2 guys jumped me for my shoes. I was carrying & I ran away. They caught me & beat me up good & took my shoes.
I did NOT draw my pew nor my knife. I called the cops & they came right out, arrested the guys, then immediately let them go.
I went to the PD the next day to follow up on my report & they took pics of my many bruises & cuts.
The cops then gave my shoes back but took over a MONTH to return my gun & knife!!! Despite my protest they refused to prosecute the robbers who assaulted me!!! 😤😤😤

My best friend growing up was involved in a road rage situation, where another driver approached his vehicle at a stoplight and tried to pull him out of his car. Upon pulling his pistol, the other party quickly retreated and drove off. Unbeknownst to my friend, the other driver obtained his license plate number at some point after the incident. Several hours later, the local sheriff's department showed up at my friend's residence to investigate a report that he had "threatened someone" with a firearm. So I can certainly see both the pros and cons of reporting this type of situation. Luckily, nothing came of the situation, but depending on where you reside and the department involved, this could have ended poorly, even though he was certainly justified in defending himself.

I was envolved in a self defense shooting, shortly after actually having my 2nd amendment rights restored. My calling of the police & video coverage of the incident entirely, saved my freedom. I hit my attacker from 42 yards (police report). The video & phone call kept me from ever having to go to court!

People do not trust police or DA's not to arrest or charge them for defending themselves

It's a sad state of affairs that we are to the point that legally armed citizens are going to have to wear body cams.

my mother was honestly kind of a lousy driver. in the late '70's (i was around 15) she, my brother and i went to the airport to pick up my dad and some dude behind us got into a road rage hassle. she pulled over in a crowded fruit, and the dude walked up and pulled open the drivers door and started raging at her. she saw him in the mirror rolled over got her 38 revolver and leveled it at him while laying on her side. he threw his hands up in surrender, backing up saying: "whoa, whoa, whoa!" and departed. she would have done it. she called the cops, reported it, they inspected her concealed carry permit and concluded she was justified, and did not take further action. this was in seattle, which wasn't as liberal then.

Yes, please explore this issue further. I had no idea that there are so many unreported confrontations every year.

This is terrible news, but necessary. There isn't ever any situation that a cop could make better, they only make things worse

I’d be interested in seeing how those fbi stats could be used to advocate for mass open carry. If the mere production of a firearm overwhelmingly stops the threat without a shot being fired, it would seem to be a reasonable assumption that a population of people openly carrying their firearms would create an environment with significantly less instances where there would be a need for defensive display.

I delivered for several different restaurants during my college years about 15 years ago. Every place I worked at, I was the only guy who carried and would constantly get sent on runs to the orders on the shady sides of town.

Was 2 robbery attempts during those times and both times I sent those lowlifes running. Told management about both, but never filled out a report due to fear of prosecution for brandishing. So I totally get the point of this video

I would make the call as soon as I deemed it safe. Thanks, Tom.
