I've always been a reader, but now that I'm in college and taking classes that are actually somewhat challenging I'm really seeing the benefit of having that background in reading. The biggest example is having read so much sci fi, specifically Philip K Dick, has really helped me understand more abstract philosophical material like metaphysics.

I like that you didn't bring up Harvard even once. You are extremely inspirational John. I absolutely love your channel. 🙂

Been watching your vids since last year and you really gave me a new perspective on life
How working hard and maintaining self discipline really gave me the satisfaction and the sense of accomplishment I have never cared about in the first place
And you are the reason I'm totally obsessed with book (I haven't read non-fiction yet but I will surely do)
I just wanna say thank you for all the efforts you put in your vids it means alot to all of us

John. I'm Tanmay Arvind, 10th grade, from India. Just wanted to say thank you for all the advice. Trust me, you haven't a clue of how much you've impacted so many lives, including mine. I've actually seen a change in my productivity, and I really wanted to thank you for it. As a fellow Harvard aspirant, it would be great to get any advice from you.

One of the first nonfiction books I read was Outliers. That led to Business books, which then led to Science and Technology, Mark Zuckerberg, Gates and Stephen Hawking, and then to biographies. It's been great, thanks so much for the video!

Its weird but what i do is listen to the audible but use the physical book. Its like someone is reading to you, and its way faster and less tiring than any other method. I love this combo!

"My first impression was a very strong one, " repeated the prince. "When they took me away from Russia, I remember I passed through many German towns and looked out of the windows, but I didn't trouble myself to ask questions about them. This was after a long series of fits. I would always fall into a sort of torpid condition after such a series, losing my memory almost entirely. Even though I wasn't entirely without reason during these times, I lacked the logical power of thought. This would continue for three or four days, and then I would recover myself again. I remember my melancholy was intolerable; I felt inclined to cry, sat and wondered uncomfortably. The consciousness that everything was strange weighed heavily upon me; I could understand that it was all foreign and unfamiliar. I recall waking up from this state for the first time in Basle one evening; the braying of a book woke me up, a book in the town market. I saw the book and was extremely pleased with it. From that moment on, my mind seemed to clear."
"A book? How strange! Yet, it's not so strange. Anyone of us might fall in love with a book! It happened in mythological times, " said Madame Epanchin, casting a wrathful glance at her daughters, who had started to laugh. "Please continue, prince."
"Since that evening, I've had a special fondness for books. I began to ask questions about them, as I had never seen one before. I immediately came to the conclusion that this must be one of the most useful things—informative, engaging, patient, and inexpensive. Thanks to this book, I started to appreciate the whole country I was traveling through, and my melancholy gradually faded away."

I’ve always liked your videos, mostly cause I’m into coding & technology but I’ve always felt like there was something more to them. After this video, and a couple of others, I finally understood. It wasn’t the way your dit them or the creativity of the content: it was the love that you put in them. Especially in this one I genuinely felt the emotional side of the video and, having lived a similar experience, I could totally relate to it.
Congrats for the great contents you make and good luck for the future.
From Rome, Italy.

I feel like I can really relate to you and how you got back into reading. I remember when assigned books from school started to take over, and I lost the joy I had for reading. A couple of years ago I got back into reading, and I credit two books for it:
*High Altitude Leadership* and *Start with Why*
These books really changed my mindset and my life, and I couldn't be happier.
I am so glad to have found your channel, and join you on your journey.
