BKP Nailbomb vs BKP Silo (Rabea Massaad Signature pickup) - Alnico 5 Bridge Pickup Shootout & Test In a Mix & Isolated

Here's my video comparing 2 high output bridge pickups, a Bare Knuckle Pickups Nailbomb (Alnico V) vs Bare Knuckle Pickups Silo (Alnico V) on my Solar Guitars S1.6PB.

They're both high output humbuckers, however they're very versatile and can do pretty much any genre, specially if you consider their excellent split coil sounds and how good they perform clean or on edge of breakup.

So, if you're looking for a Metal Bridge Humbucker that can also cover the sounds a more traditionally voiced pickup would, these are 2 great choices. As such, besides Metal I tried playing some Rock, hard rock, Stoner, clean & Solo/Lead stuff.

… making this video made me want to try their other pickups even more, I already own the Bare Knuckle Juggernaut (which I love), so maybe the Bare Knuckle Polymath or Bare Knuckle Rebel Yell next?

Hope you enjoy!

They were closer than I thought. The Nailbomb is a bit brighter but they both sound great.

Got silos in 2 of my PRSs, sound incredibly full and fat yet clear.

Silo has been designed just 2-3 years ago at the time I’m writing this, while I’ve got my Alnico V Nailbomb from 2005 (yes I was amazed by BKP very early).
This shows the quality level in designing a pickup voice by BKP.
BTW In 2005, I emailed Bareknuckle for some advices, and Tim in person were the man to the other side. He was (and still is) so dedicated and customer caring.

If I'd had to pick going by this showcase, I'd go with the Nailbomb.

Just have to say I love the way you do your comparison videos. Its great when everything is so clear - exactly what you're comparing in a big colourful font, seamless transitions so we can hear the difference straight away, excellent variety of original content tailored to the products you're comparing. And there's even timestamps and full mix/isolated versions. Literally couldn't get any better and its evident how much work you've put in, I'm surprised to see you have under 1000 subscribers. Just subbed myself, as someone that is going to be doing their own drum (my main instrument) and guitar videos soon as it's a part of the music course I'm doing atm, to start building a social media presence, I can understand that every sub helps and hopefully you get a big break yourself!

As someone who owns both, love both, the silo bridge have A LOT more bass then i feel this video showed. Maybe i feel it more playing my silos, lower res peak. The neck on the nailbomb also feels better to play imo slightly more compressed. Its a close call, i say depends on your amp both are awesome, total win win.

Great variety of tones and both pickups sound awesome. The coil split sounds great too so they can do everything like you said and demonstrated. I am thinking of getting new pups in my solar so should look into these. Fantastic work as always mate

Unless you are a seasoned guitarist or an engineer, the difference in perceived tone is nominal, no one but you are going to know the difference after postproduction or stage levels. I have both and can say from my experience is, both sound great but the Silo is responsive to hands and NB is a touch brighter and steadier compression.

Was looking Gina comparison of those two pickups a while now, since I wasn’t sure which one to get.
They are very close to another, indeed. Probably more of a feel thing. The only true difference I noticed was the split sounds. There, the nailbomb wins. Didn’t thought that, tbh. Think I will go with the NB, because it will be in a Strat…

Great video!

Both have such great tones, you'd win with either one.

Really enjoyed this. Been considering a BKP for my Fender sixty six for a while now. Funny how the Nailbomb reminded me of Coheed and Cambria and sure enough when I looked it up Claudio uses them in his Explorers

Great vid and editing! Very nice side to side comparison. A friend of mine recommended me the Silo for my Chapman ML 3 Bea Standard.

Nailbomb was lil bit more brutal. I have a warpig & miracle man. Always slept on the nailbomb.

Got another question, I’m considering a solar with an evertune. What do you think about them? Do you think it affects tone? I see you set it up to allow bends, which is what I would likely do also.

You hit the nail on the head with this haha. I'm a broken record now, but damn dude you have very quickly demonstrated that you are doing the best gear vid demos out there, in my opinion.

I was a little surprised that I confidently preferred the Nailbomb here. It is tough to put into words, but it feels like the Silos are just missing something. I am talking only on a relative basis and these are small differences, but the Silos seem a bit muffled, bloated, lacking in dynamics, and a little choked out compared to the Nailbomb.

It is definitely close and comes down to personal preference, but you have helped me to finish my decision to give the Nailbombs a go and see if they work even better for me compared to how well the Holy Divers have done for me, even though I am not doing a lot of metal anymore these days.

Absolutely fantastic video and music. It’s just made me order some BKP’s!! I’m going for a set of cold sweats in my explorer and nail bombs in my Ibanez. Hopefully I can’t go wrong with those!
I don’t suppose you have a tab for this song? I f’ing love it!!!
