Let’s be honest a big part of the joy of photography i using real cameras, not iPhones.

Whenever there is an important real estate project, I often find myself being called at the last minute to provide aerial photographs because the “boutique” photographer with an arsenal of lenses, DSLR bodies and a Matterport Pro 3D camera was just too lazy or dismissive to secure a drone and an FAA part 207 license. With a Mavic 2 Pro, I can shoot in RAW and capture scores of images from various heights and angles to reveal impressive perspectives that just can’t be obtained with land based equipment. I finish the images with Adobe Lightroom and deliver the finished JPEGs in the requested aspect ratios in Dropbox. I charge as much as the ground based “boutique” photographer and find my stunning images displayed on the cover of magazines. That little Mavic has paid for itself a hundred times over in the past 5 years. I first attended the DJI aerial photography seminar, studied Tony’s FAA Part 107 video and purchased his on-line corses dealing with processing images, composition etc.

Iceland. Been there and it is Amazing but $1, 000 is airfare only, no food or lodging. Skip the drones and phones, what you need in Iceland is a solid tripod with a “real” camera. Top sites near Reykjavik: Vik, Skogafoss, Gullfoss, Rangárthing
eystra, and Thingvellir National Park.

For the US at least (I don’t know EU regulation regarding this), this is not a good advice. First of all, drones are prohibited in all the national parks. Then you can’t fly in state natural reserves obviously. Other beautiful areas also have restrictions. For example: most of the Big Sur is prohibited. For a tiny fraction of it where you can fly, you must be very careful not to cross nearby private property or businesses, else you will be cited for trespassing. In big cities, there are airports nearby and you can’t fly. With so so many restrictions on place, drone photography is not a good option for an average photographer in the US (unless you have a big business or network through which you can manage special permissions).

$1000 would buy you lunch and a coffee in Iceland.

I completely agree, although a professional camera is more powerful in terms of manual controls, drones are a kind of a camera with a "virtual tripod" that you can place it anywhere, you can get awesome angles that a camera cannot.

You just disspointed me. For someone who was pro dslr a couple of years ago and anti ai generated images saying that some iphone can replace a camera is totaly absurred. Iphone is using ai generated image processing algorithms that can mess the final image. I remember a post when they did a test of lunar images and were totaly fake.
Its also a sad thing ai generated images take more credit than some photo taken from some remote location capturing a rare life.

Agree with the drone because you can take eye bird pictures, but not iPhone. Cameras are better.

I don't agree. You can hardly fly drones legal at the awesome places. And a ticket is useful. But only works once. While a camera will last a long time

Compared to hauling a dedicated camera around—smart phone cameras are brutally excellent for travel. The best thing a dedicated camera does is distract thieves from stealing your phone.

I don’t have a drone (but kinda want one), but I do wonder if in 10, maybe 20 years (maybe sooner?) if drone shots will be considered “old” and tired and ‘already done’, like a fad. I like the idea of actually going places to see interesting things. I wonder if Iceland is also getting a bit “already been done” by so many photographers, it must feel like there’s nothing new to see there, though I’m sure there always will be

Top tips.
I have a D850 and other nice toys but, recently I bought a Sony A58 for £85 and a Sigma 10-20 for £70. Amazing, cheap and still get great pics. Big money isn't always needed. 👍👍

Tbh, the phone doesn't have the feeling of photography. Which is really important to me and definitely many else. I'm not a professional photographer so I'm not buying the best there is, not worth for me. But an older mirrorless with a retro 50mm f2 lens did wonders during my last trip. Didn't really take any photos with my phone.

Unfortunately some places don't allow the use of a drone.
