I was a little kid in 1978, six years old or so. My dad was big into music, had introduced me to a lot of the greats even at that age. I remember playing in the backyard when he came home from work and told me to come inside, he had something he wanted me to listen to. I knew what that meant, it meant he had picked up some new music on the way home and I always liked listening to it. He put this album, on vinyl of course, onto the late 1970s vintage stereo we had in the den and put the needle on Eruption. I was mesmerized. I had no idea how such sounds were being made, and over forty years later, I still have no idea. RIP Eddie, you truly were a rock god.

I've always loved the edginess of Eddie Van Halen's guitar playing. When this song came out in 1978 I freaked on it. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. He shattered the roof in 1978 and changed lead guitar riffs forever. One of the greatest guitarists of all time. R.I.P. EVH

I remember when this came out everyone was wondering "What the hell is he doing?" Of course, now every ten year old on YouTube plays Eruption, but EV was and remains one of the greatest guitar innovators we'll ever witness.
