How to get offline GPS with iPad WIFI.

GPS module and Adaptor available on Ebay:

Feel free to add in any comments helpful to others who are using their iPad as a mapping system.
What other maps work? Do they track? Ect.

Feedback from users:

Using an Apple iPad Pro 9.7 model A1673 1st gen 2016. IOS 16.7.4
It did not work with Hema 4x4 Explorer app.
It worked with these apps
Hema 4WD Maps ( an old Hema app )
Sygic
Pocket Earth
Exploroz Traveller
Memory Maps.

Other units tested:

Ipad mini 1st generation 2012 - Does not work.

iPad mini 4 - OK iPad mini 5 - OK

iPad 11 pro - USB C input will need a lightning to USB-C Adaptor

Other apps tested:

Navionics ( Boating App ) Not on a customers iPad 8, but did give position data on my iPad 8.

iPad Air 3 - Does not work

iPad 6th & 8th Gen. Does not work with Memory maps for all.

Does it mean that if I download the maps in advance, then use the adaptor to connect the GPS module with the iPad, the iPad will work perfectly for navigation and logging the track without any internet connection?

I use the Garmin GLO, it’s Bluetooth, doesn’t need to be plugged into the iPad.
I used it for a coast to coast bicycle race across the USA, it was in a follow support car. Never dropped the signal.
I downloaded the maps before and had to create map files for different sections because of the file size.

Can I use another phone as a GPS receiver by connecting it via Bluetooth? Since here in Argentina the GLO is very expensive

does this solution work with Apple Maps online? I have an iPad without cellular and I would like to use it as a navigation device, and the germin solution is too expensive by Polish standards

Could you not download the apples maps section your expecting to travel as offline, and use the gps receiver then?

Thanks, apple told me my new to me iPad Pro 12.9 WiFi only does have built in gps … apparently they are wrong. Thanks to farmed out phone service support

I use both an iPhone (without SIM card!) and an iPad Air 6 WiFi model (no SIM slot) over a mobile WiFi from NetGear. The iPhone still can navigate me with Google Maps! But the iPad nearly useless - it constantly loses the location and is hanging massively! Is that to be expected?
