Jackets with MUST SEE play to beat Kings in OT

Patrik Laine dangles the defender and throws a backhander off the goalie, as the puck bounces off and hits Johnny Gaudreau before being last touched by Kevin Fiala and ultimately crossing the goal line, giving the Blue Jackets a 6-5 win over the Los Angeles Kings in overtime.

1:34 - 1:36 watch at 0.25 speed. Fiala stopped it with the backhand and the puck re-directed out, then he double tapped it back toward the net. But I'm still not sure if that would make it count as per the rule book.

So just curious.... why is this a goal but when a puck is kicked (like Haulas against Toronto) that goes off an opposing player considered no goal?

It would have counted even if it didn't hit the King player. Gaudreau directed it in with the hand that was holding the stick, not his free hand. The 'stick' is presumed to go up to the elbow of any hand holding it. So if you took a slapper out of the air for example but mistimed it, and the puck hit your wrist and went in, good goal. This was a good goal any way you look at it. They were probably reviewing it to see if it hit a glove not grasping the stick.

Lol ok NHL, settle down. Calling this a "MUST SEE Play by the Jackets" is a bit of an overstatement.
Especially when the whole point of the call on the ice, was that the Kings did all of the work putting the puck in the net.

I'm a salty ki-ngs fan and this was not a must-see. Bro he hit that puck in with his hand and Fiala never had possession. Should've been overturned. If only this was a game that didn't matter that was in april or smthn. This is a must win road trip for the Kings.
