How to Remove Turmeric Stains with No Effort

How to Remove Turmeric Stains From Appliances.

After filming my latest khao soi video, I ended up with heavily turmeric-stained mortar and pestle from pounding the curry paste. After handwashing with dish soap and a scrub pad, the stains were still bright yellow as you can see in the video. Thankfully there is an easy way to fade the stain.

Unfortunately if you’ve stained your countertop or other immovable surfaces…you’re kind of screwed lol. (Maybe a UV lamp will work?) This is why when working with turmeric I am VERY careful with my white countertop, and I’ll line it with a towel if I think a drip/splash/spill might occur. But if you do end up with turmeric splatters on the counter, clean it as soon as possible before it has time to sink in.

This is the first cooking video in a long time that's actually blown my mind in a long time.

I'm korean we do that as well to get kimchi stains and smells out of containers! Fill with water and leave in the sun!

I used to cook with turmeric a LOT on a regular basis. I was so sick of having a permanently yellow food processor and blender container. Someone taught me this trick and I was amazed how well it worked.

For all the people wondering, you can get turmeric stains out of clothes too with this method. Wash with soapy water and get all the grease out, you will be left with a stain, put it in bright sun for a day or two.

Goodness me!!! This explains a LOT!
I splashed JAMU juice ( lots of turmeric in this) on a woollen jumper I was wearing. I couldn’t get the bright yellow stain out despite stain removers etc so I washed it normally and decided to dye it into a different colour. I left it to dry in the sun so I could weigh the jumper to know how much die to use, and when it was dry, I couldn’t see the yellow turmeric stains on it… they were there when I laid it out to dry, and now they were gone. It must have been the UV light. No need to dye my jumper.

I discovered this on my own when I splattered yellow curry (with lots of turmeric by the way) on a nice light blue cotton polo. I tried all sorts of stain removers and nothing worked. Then I remembered how sunlight fades yellow inks over time on posters, so I decided to try it with my shirt. On a bright sunny day at noon, I laid my shirt out in the direct sunlight, and after 3 hours, the yellow was undetectable. I left the shirt wet too, thinking that the micro drops of water would act as magnifiers of the light. Not sure if that had any additional effect though.

I discovered this when getting it out of clothes. The internet doesn't tell you this, so my last resort was just just to dry the clothes and maybe carefully bleach the stained area. When I came back I couldn't see the stain anywhere. Now I always put turmeric stained clothes or cooking utensils in the sun after washing.

This works for Kimchi stains too! Especially on a white plastic cutting board.

Same trick a bunch of people do with stained baby clothes. Wash it then hang it in the sun to dry, flipping occasionally if needed. Not perfect, but helps a ton.

Sun bleach is also very eco-friendly. No pollutants or waste.

This is well known in India. Thanks for sharing it with the world.

These kind of tips allow for the stigma around things and stereotypes to be removed.😊

Amazing! I'm obsessed with my mortar and pestle but scrubbing off the stains is no fun.

Woah. I grow up and live in ASEAN, where we use turmeric almost on everything, and this is totally new for me 😮😮😮 (we usually just let the stain be there)
