Shortleaf Pine Tree Identification

Показать описание
Shortleaf Pine trees are a fairly uncommon tree but they are easy to identify. They look similar to a pitch pine or a virginia pine, however, there are some key differences. This is one of the species of pine that really needs fire to reproduce successfully. Luckily there has been a lot of restoration efforts lately to keep this species around. #dendrology #nature #trees

Hey man, really cool! I didn't know that about the pine needing fire to propagate. Amazing how such a destructive force can give rise to new life and how the plants and trees have evolved to make use of the newly fertile and cleared canopy created by forest fires.
The bark is really interesting, yeah! I don't think we have these in Ontario, but we have a whole lot of jack pine that are somewhat similar; needles in bunches of two, kinda paper-y looking bark, serotinous (hah I looked it up because I was curious!), but I haven't seen them with such big, clean plates.
Great stuff man, keep them coming! 💪🇨🇦👍

Nice lesson on short leaf pine. Mostly Lob lolly pines here . I call them paper-pines b/c the paper company plants and grows plantation farms full of these trees. Nice video, enjoyed a full watch. thumbs up.

I never paid much attention to the shortleaf pines until I went to the Ouchita Mountains hiking. I had one in my yard in Louisiana that we lost in a hurricane. It was huge and the pine cones were tiny. Now I want to plant some in my yard but where would you buy them?
