In this video I will summarize the previous coin toss experiment as it applies to statistical thermodynamics.

Next video in the polar coordinates series can be seen at:

MACRO State and MAYCRO state sounds way too similar. Otherwise excellent video.

My thermo professor jumped right into the microstates of the harmonic oscillator. No context, didn't explain the connection between micro and macro states. This was very helpful.

This really helps me understand the difference and the conceptual idea of microstates and macrostates.

Statistical Thermodynamics also involve more than 2 energy levels also? Thanks

Highest change in entropy is from Macrostate 1 to 2 in this example. Could you please verify it? Thanks

Physics profs need to break it down to these levels....so much more understandable

Thank you so much for doing these lectures! The analogy of coins really does help to understand the topic better.
I have a question.
We can always know the number of microstates, because we assume that there is an equal probability of each outcome (like a fair coin will have 50% for head or 50% for tail). And so, for each coin we have two options, and this gives us 2*2*2*2=16 microstates. How do we find the number of macrostates? Is it always N+1?
