FOR ALL Y'ALL STILL STRUGGLING TO GET PRETTIER TO WORK ON SAVE, TOOK ME 20 MIN TO FIND THIS ANSWER

Command + Shift + p
type format document with
select Configure Default Formatter...
select Prettier as default.
I don't know why the Editor: Format on Save set to true was not enough. I needed to select default formatter using the above steps so it worked.

i don't have the "Preferences: Open Settings (JSON)" option
i only have "Preferences: Open Default Settings (JSON)" and "Preferences: Open User Settings (JSON)"
i don't know why i can't make this work
