How to Replace MSI Ventus 3x Geforce Rtx 3080 thermal pads

After great feedback from the comments, it is recommended you use the 2 or 2.5mm pads.
Not the 3mm.

In this video I will be showing you how to replace the thermal pads on your msi ventus 3x geforce rtx 3080 thermal pad.

Thank you so much for making this video!! Honestly, this is the best guide out there right now! You're a natural teacher - well spoken and easy to follow. Concise, but not lacking detail. I watched a ton of content beforehand, but this is the video that gave me the confidence to go ahead and do it. I've just finished putting it all back together, and the results speak for themselves. Down 20 degrees across the board, and quiet as hell.

For anyone doing their own research right now, I should mention I had to go back and "flatten" my 3mm pads a bit. When I initially booted up, my hotspot temp rocketed to 105 - I don't think I had proper contact with the heat sink. Perhaps 2.5mm is the sweet spot. I ended up putting the pads back between the plastic sheets they came in, and squishing them down with a book. Worked like a charm!

So I just replaced the thermal pads on my Ventus 3080 Ti And found the 2.0mm size pads the best fit for the front of the PCB. At first I used 2.5mm pads and even though it decreased the memory junction temps by 10 degrees it ended up increasing the overall GPU temperature by 3-4 degrees C since I guess the 2.5s didn’t allow much contact between the chip and the heat sink. I switched them to 2.0mm and is now lowered the overall GPU temperature by like 2 degrees from before I replaced the thermal pads while lowering the memory junction temps by ~10 degrees.

Just finished this mod (only did the one side of pads). The screws in the card were barely in for one. Went from 110c+ and 65c to 80c and 55c. Thank you!!

Thanks. Thanks to your video, I finally decided to change the pads on my 3080.
I put 3mm on the backplate side and 2mm on the heatsink side.
The temperature has dropped by more than 15° on average. Happiness.

Very good, detailed how-to. In case someone's wondering: I've used 2mm Thermal Grizzly Minus pads (just on the front, didn't do the back) and TG Cryonaut thermal paste. I've noticed a small improvement in thermals, but nothing world-changing.

I only changed memory thermal pads, used 2mm pads from Zezzio (it's a 14.8w/mk) and thermal grizzly kryonaut on GPU, got BIG improvement (before the change when ambient temperature got above 33, the card thermal throttle, hashrate go down to 88 and i need to reduce the memory overclock to 1200mh/s... now it's stable at 98, 25mh/s even with high ambient temps... i didn´t touch the backplate (it´s not metal, i doubt it have a good thermal transfer capacity, i think the temps can go even more down by removing it other than replace the pads, will try it someday)

Thanks for your video and all comments here. I have replaced thermal pad with Gelid Extreme 2mm for 3080ti ventus then the result is very nice. Temperature down from 108-110C to 84C. I will continue with 3080 ventus this week.

This is so far the best video I have seen to change the thermal pads, I will definitely do it, I saw other video from a guy but he didn't say a word, this is so much better, the only thing I will say is that I'm worried that your GPU memory junction temperature went down but your GPU temperature went up

GPU Temperature went from from 54 to 64
GPU Memory junction went from 102 to 86 NICE
GPU Hot spot temperature went from 69 to 87

I have a 3080 gaming X trio and the Junction temp is always above 100 but the GPU Temp is always below 50, maybe it's because you applied to much thermal paste but I don't know, anyways thanks for the video

Hi, yesterday I replaced my thermopads and thermal paste. I bought 2mm and 3mm thermopads from GELID GP-Ultimate and Arctic MX-6 paste. Arctic done great job, my temps from gpu core went down from 80 celcius to around 72 with fans running from 90-100% to 67-70% (Thats a huge improvement). About thermopads, sure backplate pads are 3mm, but those on memory are 2mm, but some of capacitors are 3mm.Unlucky for me when I put back heatsink what I found was space between capacitors and thermopads. I didn't have more 3mm thermopads so what I did was stack up 2mm thermopads and did 4mm. Everything works fine with my card after that. Temps on memory drops from 100 celcius to 80-82 celcius. I'll check over time if my "4mm thermopads" are doing good and maybe later in future change them do proper 3mm or again 4mm but done better.

In more less 2 weeks I'll do deshroud mod to lower noise.

Nice guide, it helped me decide to service my 3080.

BTW thats way too much paste on the GPU, on the X mostly. And too close to the edges.

Remember, you only want to fill in any irregularities on the heatsink base ... but you dont want a thermal paste sandwich. You should have as much metal to die contact as possible.
