One factor/characteristic of an r-selected species that would increase the likelihood of the designated species to become more successful invasive species is that they aren't independent on their parents for nurturing while K-selected are. Furthermore, r-selected also are density independent meaning that competition for resources is very low while K-selected species have high competition for resources.

One feature of an r-selected species that would increase this species' likelihood of becoming more invasive than the k-selected species is the numerous number of offspring. These many offsprings are likely to colonize greater areas and reproduce more.

R-selected species reproduce faster than K-selected species, because of this high reproduction rate, they are able to grow their population at a much faster level than K-selected species.

As the population density of zebra mussels increases, the population of unionid mussels decreases. As the population density of zebra mussels decreases, the population of unionid mussels increases.
