I currently take Azathioprine and Humira and those barely are helping to control my symptoms. I have read and heard a lot about people experiencing these side effects you mentioned, but I thankfully never experienced any of them. Glad it's working for you and hope it continues to work!

I was diagnosted like a month ago and I was in the hospital and after the steroid therapy my doctor told me to take Azathioprine a week after I was diagnosted. I was still emotional and physically broken and he was like:" Sign here and we start the medication." I was so overwhelmed and he did not even gave me any chance to accept my illness (how could you ever when you lay in a hospital) or gave me ANY time at all. I felt like a piece of meat. Long story short: I don't take Azathioprine.

Your videos are really helpful and make me feel like I'm not alone with all of this.

azathioprine was the first medication I tried, 8 years, 2 ileostomies, 9 medications and 3 operations later I've still never been in remission! I've just started watching your videos and love them already, crohnies are naturally funny, it would be weird if we weren't considering just how embarrassing our disease is! 😂

Thank you so much for this video! I am currently having blood tests to see if I can take these tablets and like you I couldn't find any information online. Your channels amazing and makes me feel so much better about having crohns disease as I don't know anyone else with it. Thank you :)

I was diagnosed in 2014. I was put on Pentasa I think which I was on for a few months, my doctor then took me off if it. He then put me on Azathioprine- I was on one table a day for a month and then I was meant to take one twice a day. Just before I was meant to start taking two a day I started being sick one day. I thought I was just a sickness bug. A week later I’m still being sick constantly with excruciating pain in my stomach. I was so weak I couldn’t get out of bed for just over a week. I stopped taking my Azathioprine whilst I wasn’t well and then one day I felt better and I stopped being sick. I then got back to work. I came home from work one Monday morning at 9am after a night shift and remembered that I needed to take my meds. I took my Azathioprine, had a bowl of cereal and a cup of tea, then went to sleep. I woke up two hours later to the feeling of urgently needing to be sick. I was then again being violently sick and had indescribable pain in my stomach. I managed to drag myself back to my bed. I felt as though all of my energy had been drain to 2%. I closed my eyes and snuggled under my duvet and tried to go back to sleep but the pain was just to unbearable. I tried calling for my parents but there wasn’t anyone home. Thankfully they got home about half an hour later. They came straight up to my room as they could hear me shouting for them. My parents didn’t know what to do as I was in so much pain I couldn’t move. I felt as though something was going to burst out of my stomach. My parent called 111 they sent paramedics and thought it was best to get my pain managed in hospital. They called me an ambulance and took me to A&E . After being in hospital for a week of multiple drips, blood tests and ultrasound scans they came to the conclusion that I am allergic to Azathioprine which caused me to get Pancreatitis- hence the vomiting and pain. Anyone else had this happen to them??? 💜

To anyone that feels like their disease isn't under control I would 100% recommend mercaptopurine and infliximab! I reacted awfully to azathioprine, but these are AMAZING alternatives ❤️ speak out for the Crohns girl

hey! I have been on azathioprine for 2 years now at 200 mg a day I also have noticed the hair loss and extreme fatigue but I feel like it has made a big difference and how I feel daily with my Crohn's disease it has definitely helped me stay in remission for the most part I am also on Four Tablets of apriso daily with a probiotic called Ultimate Flora 30 billion and I take that every day to help with my digestive system not the days that I forget to take my medicine that's when I noticed a big difference almost immediately I'm so glad you are putting these videos out there for everyone you are such an inspiration I have always wanted to do YouTube videos on Crohn's disease but I'm very camera shy and don't like putting myself out there sometimes but I'm very open about talking about my shit because it is my life it's all about the toilet it's your best friend again thank you for putting out these videos

I'm getting ready to start azothiaprine as well. Scared, but the next step for me would be chemotherapy with cladrabine. I have refractory celiac disease, and I have been unresponsive to steroids. :(

I am trying to put off going onto this medication & follow the specific carbohydrate diet. I honestly don't know what to do. The Pentasa Melsalamine has worked for me for a few years & i took it for granted & now i am really afraid of using immune suppressing drugs.

I'm on azathioprine after a stoma reversal. I have to have my bloods checked every 3 months because it's so potent and could cause cancer if took for a long time.

Personally when I took it I felt awful, it did nothing to help me. What helped was using cannabis. You may think this is taboo but the benefits honestly I cant explain how much it saved my life. I don’t know if this will help anyone as we are all different and crohns affects us all differently but wow it changed my life and guess the side effects; you get your hunger back and actually get a sleep without pain :)

I had azathioprine for 3 years and then got immune to it which made me flare up pretty bad .

I’ve been on mercaptopurine for over a year to manage my Chrons, it wasn’t working 100% so I have to get infusions every 8weeks which is just swell.
