Bryony Hopkins , who was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease at the age of 4, discusses her condition and the ongoing research. Recent figures uncovered by Radio One's Newsbeat show a significant increase in the amount of young people admitted into hospital with the digestive condition, Crohn's Disease. Dr Sally Mitton from St George's Hospital says, "We know that there are many genes that predispose someone to get Crohn's disease. But we also know that lifestyle factors like eating a lot of junk food or taking many courses of antibiotics may make it more likely to happen."

Chrohns sucks massively. And if it's not one thing going wrong it's another.

Holy shit hearing this was amazing because I am 21 with crohns and it blew up very bad when I was 17 but been having problems since around age 12 but they never could figure it out. I just wish people new how much it affects your whole body and not just stomach

22 now, was dx with Crohns when i was 7. similar story to her, i was fed out of a nasogastric tube for 8 weeks preceding colon resection which put me into remission for 14 years or so. Crohn's flared recently and i'm currently trying Humira, which isn't really working..:/

Went to Liverpool today with my husband. ‘The drop’ (as I call it) happened and I had to race over to M & S, up the escalator and across to the disabled and baby changing toilet (im very middle aged). As I approached I saw a mother take the door handle to enter. I showed her my card, apologies and said that I had Crohns which was a bowel disease and I needed to use the toilet very quickly. She refused. Her baby had a nappy on. Her baby could be washed and changed with minimal inconvenience. Where do I wash myself in Liverpool city centre or should I never leave the house? I have to say that Liverpool (my amazing husband is from a large Liverpudlian family) is hands down the worse place to have Crohns. This has happened to me at least three times in M & S Liverpool. Women wont let you jump the queue if the disabled toilet is occupied either. Disabled toilets should be for Radar key holders only. They should be for those with a disability only. Not for mothers who don’t want to queue for the regular toilets with their kids. Not for people who ‘won’t be a minute’. When you have a bowel disease leaving the house is so stressful. You have seconds sometimes. There are times when I feel that it’s not the disease that is the biggest hurdle, it’s the people you have to deal with. Really distressing day tbh. Really distressing.

Crohn's at 4??, MY WORD, and the sad thing about Crohn's it is that eating healthy can do more harm than good!

I regain my weight after 6 months of diagnosis. I eliminate many things from my life . I struggled a lot, now i am getting results , i know it is very hard to live with disease but believe me nothing is impossible, your will power plays a important role in this.

My life's work is helping people heal from digestive illness. There is hope, I have watched numerous people recover from various digestive problems since 1980.

I've been in complete remission for just over a decade after a long battle with Crohn's.I've had bowel resections, anal surgery (fistulas).i take Aloe Mucilaginous Polysaccharides (AMP) every day.Nothing worked for me like AMP, been on steroids, Immune suppressing meds (which gave me awful side affects) 5ASA's.Thankfully i read Dr Ivan Danhof's research into the anti inflammation & immune modulating properties in the polysaccharide chains in Aloe.It has given me my life back.

a lot dont have an understanding of how the disease works like being tired all of the time constant running to the bathroom and the pain and the nausea and medications u have t take for the disease to go in remission but sometimes it doesnt happen and going to the hospital for when it gets bad we crohns disease patients who have it we have to watch what we eat and drink i cant even eat my other family cooking bcause i dont want to go to the er even celebrities have it also like shannon doherty so pls dont judge us for a disease that cripples and hurts and if u have a family member or friends with it go with them to an appt for u to get understanding of it

Don't know if this will help anyone. I have had it a while now. I find drinking at least 2 litres of water a day helps and staying of dairy. I talked to another person with it and he was also lactose intolerant.
I hope this helps someone. P.s i a non dirnker and non smoker.

A friend of mine recently told me her Crohn's Disease was linked to her mother being of Ashkenazi Jewish heritage. I'm sure many non Jewish individuals have it too.
