*Prompt:* What are the different moods in this film? How does the music contribute to these moods?

*My answer:* Many authors and directors go through varying moods throughout their stories, and La Luna is no different. Enrico Casarosa’s short film begins with a serene mood, as a boy makes his debut in the family business with his father and grandfather. The water is calm while the music is gentle, but tension starts to build between the characters as the music changes to a minor key and they start arguing. There’s also an element of mystery, as the music stops and the watcher is filled with anxious anticipation, concerned about what will happen. Suddenly, the moon appears, and the swelling music enforces the new mood of awe and curiosity. This curious mood continues until the end, when the characters settle back into the boat, their job done. All of these moods are added to by the music, and La Luna does a fantastic job of showing how music can enforce the mood of any moment on the screen.
