I’ve been in the Garmin ecosystem for over 20 years. From the car GPS, to the Forerunner fitness watches, Edge bike computers, Varia bike light/approach system, to the Fenix (current 6 Pro Solar) and Instinct (Crossover) watches. I train for triathlons, so for training I’ve touched on almost all functions of the watches. Connect ties it all together.

I recently, due to injuries, moved away from triathlon training and rediscovered golf. And found the golf functions in both the Fenix and Instinct watches. I’ve now invested in the G80 and R10. I love Garmin.

As a possible solution to your HR issue - I’ve not experienced the same issue you have. I watch DC Rainmaker a fitness tech guru, and he’s not reported that issue either. But, I use a HR strap while working out and racing. Perhaps this might be the solution to your problem? The Garmin HR Pro strap is what I use because I can get HR data for my swims. Again, for training purposes it’s invaluable.

Like the video and your comments...thank you..I have 2 watches Epix 2 and the Approach S62...I personally like the S62 Golf golf watch software more than the Epix 2. But I did see today a friend of mine wearing his new S70...it is different to the Epix 2..not much but there are subtle differences as you mentioned in the video...Still trying to convince myself to upgrade to the Fenix 8..😅

Really good review. I agree with a previous comment about doing a portion of the video on the golf course to see the watch in action. I would also enjoy seeing how Marq series compares.

Hi i have had the s70 and the epix pro and the s12 actually loved all 3 for what they were i think i have come to the conclusion to go with the s12 for golf and get the series 10 apple watch ( maybe the new black ultra 2 ) Cheaper than the Fenix 8 or even the Epix pro thanks for the great review cheers from Canada

Great video and review of the Fenix 8! Thank you. Quick question (for anyone), I have the Epix Pro 2 and have used it for a couple rounds of golf. It doesn't seem to ask what clubs I've hit after a shot, and wonder if I missed a setting/option. Thanks!

There is an easy solution to the Gamin heart rate issue. Make sure you wear it well away from your wrist bone. I have been using Fenix for several years and doing High intensity workouts. It responds quickly if you move it away from the wrist bone and make sure it is a little tighter when running as the movement, albeit slight, is the cause of the delay.

I have the Fenix 8, but have trouble recording short game. I don't have the CT10 sensors, but most times it will fail to detect when I chip a ball. Also unsure how to properly record my putting distances (I know how to record number of putts at the end). Any help on this would be great!

Watch Crashes & Virtual Caddie. I’ve been having the Fenix 8 crash on me several times during my golf round. I have it paired with the Garmin Golf app on my iPhone and the crash happens when I enter the score on the watch. I’ve not seen it crash when I don’t have to edit my score before entering but when I edit the hole data, down it goes. I have also not been able to use the full virtual caddie even after five rounds of golf with shot tracking. I have always seen the line for the expected driver distance but that is based on the value I entered and not my shot history. I do not see the box for my iron/approach shots for my expected landing area and no recommended club is shown. Perhaps the crashes have affected this feature. When the crashes happen, the watch restarts and I have to restart the golf app on the watch and resume the round. Consequently, when I go to review the round’s shot data, only the holes and shots after the last crash are saved in the round on the Garmin Golf app. Very disappointing and quite frustrating during the round. I’ve been working with Garmin on the problem. They thought the last software update would fix it but not so. Still waiting on the fix.

Hey Sean, I have the watch (BTW in Australia it was just over $1800 for the 47mm version) I have tried using in once on the course as my normal golf wearable is the Shotscope X5. Do you need to run Garmin Golf to get some of the other data regarding slope, wind and so on?

doesnt that have the same functions as the epix 2?
and a good alternative between the epix and the fenix 8 or?
