THE LOST BOYS 4K UHD BLU-RAY REVIEW

Показать описание
A belated review of Joel Schumacher's 1987 classic starring Jason Patrick, Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Haim and Corey Feldman with the cinematography from the one and only Michael Chapman. Is it a horror film or a comedy? I think it's a bit of both but whatever the case it's all served up with great style, glamour and a rock soundtrack that will surely mean it still appeals to a young audience today.
The image aspect ratio is approximately 2.40:1 and the original Dolby Stereo has been re-worked into DTS-HD 5.1.

I was a teenager when I saw the first theatrical run. Perfect age. Had a big impact on me. Got the 4K first day and watched it with my teenage sons. It still works. And the transfer was great. That’s the best thing about 4K. It gives me a chance to not only revisit but give my kids the best experience. Presentation matters.

I was around 13 or so in the early 90s when I saw this for the first time and absolutely fell in love with it.
The soundtrack is so good as well.

Hi John... I didn't think much of this film when I first saw it, but over the years I started to appreciate it more with every viewing. This one and Fright Night are 2 throw back films that I truly enjoy watching and appreciate as I've gotten older. I've been offline for awhile John, life somehow, sometimes just gets in the way, glad to be back in familiar surroundings enjoying another one of your stellar reviews like only you can deliver!

This was filmed in my hometown of Santa Cruz aka “Santa Carla.” I saw them when they were filming in the comic book store, which was downtown, not on the wharf. Corey Haim was hanging around while they were setting up shots. The owner of the comic store is in the scene. The reason they changed the name of the town to Santa Carla is because in the early 70s Santa Cruz was known as the murder capitol of the world because the were two serial killers running around and the town was trying to get over the association with the name. Fun film, good soundtrack.

I've enjoyed this film over the years but didn't have any intention to own it. Your superb review has completely sold me, John. Looking forward to scoping the next 3 for £30 offer! All the best.

My only previous version of this was when I had it on VHS back in the day, and by "the day" I mean probably about 10-11 years ago when I was 10. I bought myself a small VHS 4:3 TV combo to play games on and my local charity shop was giving away VHS' that they had for free frequently and this was one that I got and I really liked it, but I really loved it on the 4k, think it is one great looking picture. Not my favourite 80s Vampire film though, that would be Fright Night (1985) pretty easily. Great review as usual!

Saw this the cinema in 4K last year - was beautiful (I’m 40 so, obviously never seen it in the cinema ). One of the best horror comedies (if not the best) ever made. Soundtrack, comedy. Characters, plot, twists and pacing. 10/10 - maybe Fright Night challenges it - but overall I consider this classic.

Shame about the case artwork though…

I can think of Fright Night (1985) and Near Dark (1987) as being most similar to Lost Boys!

Admittedly have never seen Lost Boys. Might have to be one I just jump in and get on 4K! Great review as always, John, thank you!

Glad you enjoyed it.

The wife and I are huge fans of the film and soundtrack. The UHD was a nice breath of fresh air for a film I’ve owned on multiple formats.

All I need now is Near Dark on a UHD and the two 1987 vampire movies can sit together on the shelf.

This was the first "legitimate" 🤫 VHS movie I bought as a young lad & I remember it costing a lot for my means back then but I probably watched it every few weeks for years, which wasn't unusual back then. I rewatched it on a streaming platform not so long back & I could still remember nearly all of the lines before they were said & I have a terrible memory so I must have really got my monies worth on that VHS 😅.

I'll definately be picking up the 4k when I finally get my home cinema up & running, fingers crossed before the end of this year 🤞

Great review John, I tried to get this at hmv in the 3 for £30 4k sale but they'd sold out so got something else instead. Always looking out for hmv offers especially 3 for 30 4k, nothing beats it!!!

Hey john, hoping your holidays were great. Got this back when it first was released and was extremely pleased. Very cinematic brought me back to the night of the theater when I saw it really could be happier. haven’t seen 8 mm probably since it was released on Home video very disturbing noticed on your video it was from the writer of seven which makes perfect sense.
I’m sure you’ll be flooded with people telling you how good the fugitive looks and put me in with the crown it is an outstanding release. I opted for the steel book which I dearly love as the cover Harkins back to the original TV series, which I am currently watching for the first time in its entirety. I’ve seen episodes here and there over the years but really enjoying the series. I’m just about to start the final season, which is in color, the black and white looked absolutely beautiful, and the amount of guest stars that appear over the episodes is incredible. so if you get a chance definitely pick it up on 4K especially if you can get it for €10 the film is always look great but as usual the HDR is top notch on this one it really is one of the better 4K’s this year.have a great one as always, john

Another great review John :)
I've seen The Lost Boys numerous times and really enjoy this different type of vampire film with great cast. It's not on the same level as Fright Night (my favorite 80s vampire film) but still very good and worth watching.

Amazing film and thanks for another superb review John.
Never saw this in the cinema in 87 for some reason, have watched many times on VHS and streaming . Must pick up the 4K!

Once again I commend you for keeping it real by providing the 'reel' reason why 4K discs of analog films usually have high quality.

By all means, do The Fugitive in the future.

Great video John! I love how you explained the difference between the 4K and Blu-ray of this movie. I think that would be helpful for people new to the format. I think the last time I saw Lost Boys was on VHS or DVD. I did a review for The Fugitive 4K UHD over on my channel, and my goodness, it's a good looking transfer!

Watched this disc last week. Thought it looked and sounded great. Hadn't seen the movie in about 30 odd years and it still holds up. Cheers.
