How do you quickly stop blood loss during a crisis situation? Karen Mynar, Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas’ Level 1 Trauma Center demonstrates how you can save a life by stopping the bleed.

IMPORTANT: I’ve heard that if the cloth you are using soaks through, do NOT remove it. It will ruin all the clotting you’re already successfully creating. Add another layer of fresh cloth on top and re-apply pressure.

My school got shooting threats a few weeks ago (everything is okay though), and that's been my number one fear since switching to public school. Our teachers frequently go over evacuation plans and my class's current substitute teacher used to be in the military so today he taught us how to use a tourniquet and how to barricade a door using chairs. I have a lot of extra space in my backpack even with all my school supplies, binder, and books inside so I plan on carrying stuff like first aid because I figure a lot of students don't and I'm paranoid lol but it's better to be safe and prepared. - Applying pressure to the wound won't always stop the bleeding because internal bleeding can still occur

- When you’re in a desperate situation and you don’t have gauze you can use anything to pack the wound. Whether it’s a jacket, a shirt or a sock you can use it (getting an infection won't matter if you are dead).

- NEVER unpack the wound only every add more cloth on top of it if needed

- When applying a tourniquet place it 1-3 inches above the wound

Sadly to say but I think this should be taught at schools it could save someone you love and would want someone close by who knows what to do in a situation of panicking and yelling and screaming also comes with it 🙏 great video thank you.

We just had a guy at work yesterday almost bleed to death from tearing his femoral artery. I've never seen so much blood come from a human before..we basically did everything you said in video and we saved him. He's being released tomorrow.
