The longest surah, al-baqarah, for example consists of 9 sections.

Quran revealed to the blessed final prophet Muhammad (SAW) over 23 years of his prophethood. Prophet Mohamed dictated what was revealed to him to his scribes to be written down in any parchment, bones...etc.
So Quran was preserved both orally and in writing. It was collected at the time of Abu Bakr and finished during the reign of Uthman to be in one book.

The chapters were placed According to the instructions of the prophet Muhammad to his scribes. Even the verses of chapters sometimes didn’t revealed at once example is the second chapter it took years to be completed.
