Ross McGowan. Can't thank you enough. At last the penny has dropped thanks to your excellent explanations. I have studied calculus to level three [ self taught ], but this 'calculus of variations' has always escaped me due to the level of abstraction. You have given the best explanation of this concept I have found anywhere on YouTube, and I might add, including those explanations given by professional mathematicians. There are those who know what they teach and then those who can 'teach what they know', and there is a world of difference between the two, and you belong to the latter breed...thanks again sir.
